For those who do not know what Google AdSense is, it is basically an advertising program by Google that if you have a website, you can sign up for to become a publisher (where you publish ads on your website) and thereafter, insert a few lines of code in your website. These lines of codes that you insert in your website will be where Google AdSense will display ads on. And whenever someone clicks on any of the ads, you’ll get paid.

In this post, I’m going to share with you 4 very simple AdSense tips and tricks that I personally use to help multiply my AdSense income.

1. Color Scheme

When it comes to selecting the color scheme of your ad units, you would want them to blend into your website, and not have a separate color scheme for it, which tells people that that is an AdSense unit. By doing so, people will skip through the whole ad unit altogether and you will not be able to make any money from it.

You will want to make sure the color of the clickable links of your ads is the same as the clickable links in your website. You may want to use the color ‘blue’ for these clickable links because people have been trained to identify clickable links as being in ‘blue’. So, if your links are in ‘blue’, you will tend to receive more clicks on your ads.

As for the text of the ad, you want the font type and size to be the same as what you are using for text in your website – This will allow your ad units to blend in nicely into the whole website (by doing so will get you more ad clicks, and more income for you).

2. Remove Border

You do not want to keep the borders in your ad units to tell people that they are ads. While it is not possible to remove the border totally, what you can do is use the same color that you use for the background of your website for your ad unit’s border.

3. Text Or Image Ads?

When it comes to text or image ads, I personally have better earnings with text ads vs image ads. The reason is because people have their eyes trained to skip image ads (also known as banner ads), unless that banner ad is especially eye catching that it sucks in their attention). But most of the times people just skip through these image ads totally.

Therefore, I would recommend that you serve only text ads in your ad units.

4. Above The Fold

Most of the times the ads that are clicked on are those that are above the fold (meaning the upper half of your website that is visible to your visitors without them having to scroll down).

I would recommend that you place your ad units in the following positions (to get more earnings):

i. Top Of The Sidebar

ii. Immediately Below Website Header

iii. On Top Of Each Individual Post, Immediately After The Post Title

Make sure that you don’t use the banner ads on your site because this will decrease your click through rate.
People who visit your website usually try to avoid any banner and picture ads that they see. If you want to increase your click through rate, you will want to add text ads. Google gives you that option so use it.
Here are some other small tips to increase your Adsense income:

1. Google has confirmed that using the 336×280 rectangle ad block size does have the highest click through rate. Using this ad size will increase your click through rate and the income that you generate.

2. Using a blue underline for the links can also improve your click through rate. This allows the ads to actually stand out and look clickable.

Some Brief History about me….

I’ve always been extremely eager to learn about all of the ways you can make money from the internet.

There are so many different ways to make money, I’ll admit that it can get very overwhelming.

But, if you boil everything down into the one “thing” that is necessary to generate money online – “it comes down to how well you can generate “targeted” traffic to your website.”

When I started online, way back in the early 2000s, I owned a aquariam supply related website.

I managed to get my website to the top of Google for the most competitive keywords in the world. Keywords like: salt water aquarium, aquarium supplies, wholesale aquarium supplies

 I put ALOT of work into getting my website to the top of Google for those keywords. Why did I spend so much time and effort to try and rank highly for those keywords?

I’ll tell you exactly why… Because I knew those keywords would send ALOT of traffic to my site. Back in the day, I thought…

Alot of traffic = Alot of sales…..!

WRONG……..

I mean, heck, common sense would tell you that the more traffic you got to your website, the more sales you would make, right?

WRONG … Back then, I, like most other people, thought that’s the way it all worked, or I obviously wouldn’t have spent to much time and effort on those keywords.

Let me explain….

While I did have #1 rankings for nearly every single major keyword related to the aquarium supplies industry and it was bringing in over 10,000 visitors to my dinky little website PER DAY, the conversion rate (i.e. the amount of sales I made per visitor) was ridiculously low.

I sold roughly 1 product for every 1,000 people that came to my site.

That’s a .1% conversion rate. You heard me right, “point one percent”.

If you don’t know what a good conversion rate is, let me just say that you should never have below a 1 percent conversion rate, let alone a .1 percent. Getting 1,000 visitors to your site per day takes a heck of a lot of work….

“…..If I had to do it all over again, I would NOT spend my time on such broad, competitive keyword phrases like: weight loss. … only to have such a poor visitor value and very little return for my time and effort…..”

I would spend my time ranking for, bidding on, and basing my entire business on keywords that are already 100% proven to convert visitors into buyers….

Because, let’s face it, we want people to come to our website and BUY our stuff. We don’t want people visiting our site if they’re just going to leave, right….?

There are two major problems that online marketers have, and they are:

They focus on extremely broad keywords that just bring a lot of random traffic to their websites. They don’t know how to properly research their market to find which people are buying what they’re selling.

Because you’ve read up to this point, problem #1 should no longer be a sticking point for you. It can lead to a lot of extra work, with very little results.

Always put ads above the main fold. Make sure that the ad unit with the highest clickthrough rate is the first instance of the ad code that appears in the HTML.

Try to put the add url link to a lighter colour .

Try using the 336×280 large rectangle, 300×250 medium rectangle, or 160×600 wide skyscraper as they have proved to have the best conversion rate.

Dont ever place adsense ads next to images as this is against the adsense policy which may result in a warning or ban.

Make ad links look as navigation links on your webpage. Ad links have a great conversion rate if put correctly on the webpage.

Use URL channels to determine performance of individual pages. I track my most popular pages with Google Analytics, Statcounter and create a channel for each of the URL. You can even track Adsense Clicks with Analytics

Tip 23.

For low CTR pages, try changing titles or adding more content to get better focused ads.

Tip24.

Try using Free adwords keywords tool to get an estimate of the CPC and according that try to block low paying advertisers.

Tip 25.

The AdSense for search Top Queries report shows you what your users are looking for, by listing the 25 most common searches conducted through your AdSense for search boxes. Use this report to identify additional topics to add to your site, or to keep track of your most sought-after information. Focus and improve that content.

Tip 26.

Not everyone has a RSS reader. Use RSS to Email services like FeedBlitz, Bloglet or Rmail to let users subscribe to your blog by email.
