3 SEO Musts For Getting A Site To The First Page Of Google
3 SEO Musts For Getting A Site To The First Page Of Google
Being on the first page of Google is something that many online business owners aspire too. They want to have their site up there on page one. Why? Simply because there is so much potential for a ton of free traffic from being there. And the Online Business World generally works in the way of the more traffic that your site gets, the more money the business will make. So let’s get into these three secrets to getting a site to the first page of Google.
Secret number one is about your domain. You want to do your best to have your keyword (those words that people are typing into Google to find you) be in the domain name itself. If you can make this happen, you will get a big boost in the way of getting onto page one.
To help you understand what I’m saying here, let me give you a quick example. Say the keyword that you want to get ranked for is “Dog Grooming”. If you get a domain name like “ProfessionalDogGrooming.com” or “domain.com/professional-dog-grooming”, you and your site will have such an easier time moving up the rankings for that keyword.
The second secret is about you getting you keyword in your sites title. This is like a must. You need to have that keyword in the title at least once but if you can get it in there twice and still make sense, that’s even better.
Taking “Dog Grooming” again as our example keyword, we want to get it into the site title. To do this we could create a title like “Easy Dog Grooming Secrets Anyone Can Do At Home”. This would be a good title to use but an even better title would be something like “Dog Grooming Secrets – Get The Dog Grooming Secrets That Make It Easy At Home”. This is user and Google friendly and will really help you to get the rankings you’re looking for.
The third secret is about having your keyword in the very first sentence of the site. What we’re wanting is to show Google that the site is relevant to the keyword and through having it in the first sentence Google will see the relevancy. So make sure it’s in that sentence.
Think for a minute about what Google really wants for its searchers. They want to give their searcher the most relevant site that they can for what the user is looking for. So by you doing these 3 things, Google will see your site as being very relevant to your keyword. This will make it a much easier task of getting your site to page one and getting all of that free traffic Google gives aw

Selecting The Optimal Keywords To Steer Visitors To Your Web Site
Selecting The Optimal Keywords To Steer Visitors To Your Web Site
If you are like your neighbor who owns a website, you want your site to emerge in the top 10 of Google search results. Unfortunately, most people don’t have the skills to truly achieve it. There are many steps to take in order to be found for words and phrases related to your web site. Moreover, taking your time to explore the best possible phrases for your site is an important step on the ladder.
Many webmasters make the mistake of assuming that a ranking for one generic term associated with their website will turn their site into a money-making success. Although that one generic term may supply a good flow of traffic and brand appreciation, this does not mean the traffic will be targeted traffic that will convert into sales or become opt in subscribers. Plus the expenses of targeting that generic keyword may well tower over your return on investment. It is best for you to target several keywords related to the benefits of your product or the problems your product solves. This will not only drive traffic, but also produce that all important conversion.
First of all you need to consider who your prospects are and the reasons why they will visit your web site. Do you advertise products online? Do you suggest services? Is your site more information focused? What would visitors see as their benefit for coming to your site? By understanding your potential visitors and the reasons they will visit you will better focus your efforts on important keywords.
With this in mind, you can now think about the benefit or problem related terms that you think people will use to try and find your website. You should not be satisfied with simply one term. This is a trap that lots of webmasters fall into when they believe that one term will provide sufficient visitors to maintain their business. And they are shocked that their business doesn’t increase if they do attain that ranking. Reflect on all of the potential keywords and themes of your website, even draw on a thesaurus to locate related words and phrases. You can also check rival websites for ideas. It can be surprising just what terms your potential visitors will use!
Once you have assembled the list of keywords, you need to use some resources to determine how widely used and competitive those terms are. Also, you’ll begin to sharpen up those keywords to be highly targeted to your site’s purpose.
To start out you’ll find out how widely used your keywords are. This job can be performed using a number of keyword suggestion tools.
Keyword suggestion tools tell you which keywords were used in searches, and the number of searches that were conducted on those keywords. Entering a phrase in the tool will result in a selection of other keywords that contain your keyword, alternative phrases with a similar theme and also an estimation of the magnitude of traffic each phrase produces per month. These tools can be flawed as they query different search engines and the traffic estimations can be imprecise, but they are still useful for getting a ball park estimation of the number of searches conducted, and for suggesting various keywords you might never have thought of targeting.
Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool, located at http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal, is free to use and gives you a list of suggested terms as well as the quantity of searches performed on Google.
A similar tool is located at http://www.wordtracker.com. Wordtracker queries the metacrawlers Dogpile and Metacrawler. So the statistics possibly will not be representative of what’s being searched on the Internet as a whole. But Wordtracker is still beneficial for offering alternative phrases and associated keywords. Wordtracker has a subscription service. Wordtracker offers monthly or annual subscriptions.
Trellian’s KeywordDiscovery at http://www.keyworddiscovery.com is a relative newcomer to the keyword suggestion marketplace. KeywordDiscovery can query multiple search engines worldwide and provides comparable results to Wordtracker as well as other resources, but with subscriptions starting at .95 per month. You can try this service at no charge but you’ll receive only a subset of the results you would receive as a paid member.
Once you’ve got a list of terms, you’ll need to see how competitive they are. What you;re hoping to find here are keywords that have high volume traffic but not many websites competing to rank for that term. You can use various tricks to estimate this. Any page that is optimized for a term will certainly have that keyword in the title tag and in anchor text of links pointing to the site. So by doing a search in Google and entering the queries intitle:“phrase here” and inanchor:“phrase here”, you can find the number of other pages that have been optimized for your selected keyword. The smaller the results for these searches, the less competition there is for the term. For more information about what these Google advanced search operators do, go to http://google.about.com/od/googlepowersearches/Google_Power_Searches.htm.
Using these tools should have now provided you with a list of words and phrases that are significantly more targeted than your first keywords. These phrases can include breaking your term down by regional location, or a specific product. You should now be able to optimize your web site for several keywords – remember that search engines index web pages and not just websites. The good news is that all of your pages in your web site can be found in search engines, and this means that all of those pages can be optimized for different keywords!
Many people are also optimizing pages for “long tail” keyword phrases. These are obscure multi word phrases that are use infrequently in searches, but are so precise they can end up being the most targeted terms and thus produce higher conversion rates. In order to include long tails phrases you must have a content rich site – the more information you have the more opportunities you have to include very specific terms that can be found somewhere on your site.
So you should now finally have a list of the most effective targeted phrases for your site! As you can see, the method of selecting your terms in not something that can be taken lightly. There is considerable preparation to carry out if you desire to optimize the capability of your web site to attract organic search traffic. With your final list you are now ready to rework your pages to be found for those keywords, but that is an additional subject.
You’ll find more material about Internet advertising, getting free traffic to your website and more at the author’s websites. You’ll find revealing articles, stimulating videos, and beneficial products.

Web Site Optimization
Web Site Optimization
Website Optimisation
Google Search Engines
I know I’m of stating the obvious for the wide majority of us, however I have to cover it for the few that may not know. Google will more than likely index your site regardless, but if you want to fast track the course of action and tell Google that your site exists and to send a bot over to index it then simply go to www dot google dot com/addurl and add your URL “www dot yourwebsiteaddress dot com” to make sure Google can find your site.
Website Optimisation -> Hierarchy Management:
In order for the spiders to index your site easily you need to make sure you have a . The easiest way I can think to explain this is: Think of your (C:) Drive Folder, you don’t just put all your files straight into your (C:) Drive, as you know there are thousands of different files in there and they are all structured under the (C:) Drive hierarchy.
You have folders like your Documents folder, Pictures Folder, Music Folder… and this is exactly the way you should constitute your website. By making subfolders that not only make it easier for you to find what you want but when Google comes along to index your site it will easily find all the files, you can put all of html text together at one level because google doesn’t have a problem with this but you will need to put all your auxiliary files in a hierarchical order at the same level. Organize this logically.
There is a picture of this on my blog, just click the link titled Website Optimisation in the resource box of this article.
All your html text files would be in the resource folder. “See the photo on my blog” If you structure your site in a similar way its no problem for you to find your files and easier for Google to index your site.
Website Optimization -> Music, Images, Videos
HTML is easy for google to find and index but Music, Images & Video isn’t that easy, so you need to help the Googlebot out a bit.
Give all your multimedia files a good description using alt= <”description of picture”>
Give all your picture files an acurate depiction when you name them.
Give a good explanation in the description field when you can.
Here’s an example: I named the picture on my blog, Website Optimization. This helps Google find the picture and certainly wont hurt my my search rankings. You should also do the same with the description & alt tagsalt=<”Website Optimization”> There is a second picture on my blog post named Website Optimisation I have done the same; only I have spelled it the way we would here in Australia. Just testing to see if it will help google find this post in both .com & .com.au search engines.
Web Site Optimisation -> Title Tags
Always use the google keyword tool to search for good search volume keywords to use in your title, that doesn’t necessarily meanthat the higher the number of searches the better.
There can be some pretty tough competition for these high volume keywords. Just use keywords that best suit your post or article and do everything you need to do to get on the First Page of Google. There is more information about this on our blog site.
It’s bestto keep your Title tags as short and concise as possible they need to do two jobs “get your visitors attention” & attracting highly qualified targeted audience through the selection of your Title keywords.
The title of this article is a good example. I chose it after going through the Google Keyword Tool and finding that Web Site Optimisation was getting 14,800 searches world wide per month and Web Site Optimization was getting 27,000 searches globally per month. There was definately higher level keywords but the contest for these keywords is fierce. Thats not to say that you should totally forget these higher volume keywords just mix it up a bit.
I know this title didn’t attract you because you were searching for Home Business Opportunity, MLM or Network Marketing, you are evidently looking for better ways increase site traffic. Our site is only a couple of months old and right now we are generating between 400 – 500 No Cost, Free hits per day using Only Free Marketing Strategies and the trend continues upwards. Thats more than 10,000 hits per month on a very conservative quantity and it won’t be long before we are getting 20,000 hits per month, more than 10% of these are new visitors.
A big percentage of the marketing we are doing is yet to come into play. We still have a lengthy list of Articles in line waiting to be approved and put out there on the net. Article Marketing is an extremely powerful free marketing strategy, just do a google search and see how often an article comes up in the first page.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – SEO Hints and Tips – On and Off Site
I have talked to many readers of my blog recently, a lot asking about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Asking everything from what is it, to how do I go about it cheaply, to much more detailed questions. Admittedly I didn’t know all the answers, I knew alot but not all. That’s mainly because Search Engines (SE’s) like Google, MSN and Yahoo, keep search algorithms secret.
Now this might sound scary and make it almost impossible one would suggest to get a good ranking from such SE’s. However this isn’t strictly true, there a few things you can do and these will help you alot in getting your site out there and seen.
This first blog will deal with techniques and how they can make or break a sites rank. Further blogs will talk about Meta Tags and other key suggestions as well as talking about how accessibility and SEO go hand – in hand.
These tips are not fully detailed, nor should be taken directly. It is suggested by myself that you read between the lines, do some more research, or approach me individually at admin*at*andykinsey.com or leave a comment below.
There are two main catagories of technique, these are; White Hat and Black Hat.
Black Hat - deals with the things SE’s dislike alot, and penalise websites for. These include things like “link farming”, “doorway pages”, keyword stuffing, spamdexing and other such activities (which i wont go into right now).
White Hat – talks about the things SE’s are known to like or that SE’s are likely to like, things such as;
Fresh Content, good meta tagging, inbound links from “good neighbourhoods”, no dead ends, easy to navigate websites, submitting to directories (DMOZ etc) clean/non-clutters code and more.
If a website was to use black hat tricks (and it should be added, gets caught) all SE’s have been known to blacklist websites permanently or place you in a “sandbox” this is to say your site can’t be see from the SE for a particular period of time. Some BH tricks are worse than others, for example link farming is almost certain to be penalised as its easy to spot bad neighbourhoods.
Where as if a site uses White Hat techniques, although not guaranteed, it is much more likely SE’s will link and rank you highly. Some techniques grab attention more than others, some are more important than others. But it is not the same for all websites!.
Each website can benefit from good SEO techniques but if used incorrectly or not implemented correctly they will simply be a waste of time.
Meta Tags are those things at the top of a websites code. Literally they contain information about information, but its best to look at these as “attention grabbing friends”. You have to take care of your meta data as much as your content, if you mess them up you can mess up your ranking from Search Engines (SE’s). The measureable importance of Meta Tags is a matter of great contention, some say it now means nothing, others like myself know it does have importance even if the edge has gone a little. Either way managing Meta Data is of key importance to any website and should not be over looked. Also its easy to forget managing this Meta Data is very much a full time job, even if you already have a good ranking.
A meta tag can contain anything from information about a websites designer, its SEO provider, but the things SE’s recognise (mostly) are the Keywords and the Description (and robots), so this is what I will concentrate on in this blog.
Keywords – one of the most important things on a website. I make no quarms over this, get this wrong and to be blunt, you’re dead in the water. They can do as much harm as good, so get it right.
[Before you look at keywords you need to remember , firstly shorter keyword phrases are used more often (for example "design" is used more often than "web design" which is more often than "andy kinsey web design"), selecting your keyword phrases is very important, you have to specialise in an area to get seen there but not be so specific you lock out other markets which could be of interest. This may make no sense but it will as we go on.]
As a general rule of thumb your keywords/labels/phrases tags should be of no more than 10-15 words, this means you can have this many keywords of around 7-10 phrases/keywords. (Anymore than this and your Keyword stuffing, a very black hat trick likely to be penalised.) Selecting these keywords is important and you have to be careful to specify but not so much you close your market. So…
-Do some research into your competitors keywords
-Do not use the same word twice if you are to do this use the word once and follow keywords (so andy 1, andy 2 would become andy,1,2, etc)
-Use keyword analysis tools such as google keyword centre
Then use your research for a month, analyse the results (google webmaster tools will help you with this), give each phrase/word a mark out of ten. then change them, a month later compare results, then again and keep doing this. not only will you tweak til your perfect but google will like that you refresh them, they class as fresh content!
marking them on a scale in accordance to relevance, general rank after a period of time, total number of hits via this keyword/phrase. do this in a spreadsheet, if you can keep this spreadsheet archive and use it well your site will continually improve not only over a few months but it will allow you to see trends of change a long time before your competition will ever do. ….unless they read this blog too, in which case…best of luck to you all.
Another application of keywords for SE’s is keyword / content ratio, this means how often keywords appear in your content. You should aim for between 7% and 15% keyword density. Anymore and SE’s get cautious and its keyword stuffing again, and less and your not doing your job properly as a website owner and maintainer.
Notes From History: Over the years the importance of Keywords has decreased due to abuse by various “black hatters” whom abused the system, today the fact google and other SE’s don’t show todays results but rather a month or two behind it is hard to see how important it is at this second, or any other second for that matter. The idea of time lapsing keywords is one you should consider, circulating keywords is of importance.
Description - Although not as important as keywords a description is what brings people to your site (ultimately). This is because unless your submitted via DMOZ (or another directory) / and even if you are in some cases, Search Engines will show this description and your title as the search result.
There are certain words that draw people in like “free”, “sale” and ”discount” but use them incorrectly or too often and people will just not click, links that says “100% free” for example, I will instinctively ignore, most the time this is on the basis of my subconscious saying This IS SPAM! . so word it carefully refresh it often, be specific to your target audience and do not repeat yourself, or make yourself look silly.
This is to say if your title says your a web design company, don’t repeat this in your description, or do but re-word it call yourself an Internet design agency, this will draw people in to your site, and will more often than not mean they stay longer.
Practical Advice: Your description should not be of more than 140-200char in order to ensure all SE’s can show it within their search results pages.
Robots - this is not one of the more important factors of a web page, however the information it contains is often vital. meta robots (not to be confused with link factors) in essence tell a search bot/spider what it can and can not do with your page. For example – “follow” means a SE can follow links on a page as “no follow” means it can not follow them. “Index” and “noindex” do as described, “snippet” means it can take extracts from your site to show as results elsewhere (if an SE wants to, though normally it doesn’t). The most common meta bot “all” is assumed by SE’s to me “index, follow, snippet*” (*snippet is not confirmed).
Meta tags are formed as follows:
For example
After my recent postings I have been approached by several people asking about accessibility and how does it link to SEO, as they don’t quite understand what I meant when I said this in my first blog that they go hand-in-hand.
By hand-in-hand I mean that if you make a site accessible (as per the content) then you will make the site accessible to Search Engines (SE’s). This will mean content easy to read, follow, and be read aloud, it will mean images have alt-tags and that links will have title tags and meaningful keywords attached (not click here!). This also helps because if people can get access to your site they are more likely to not only recommend your site but maybe become a client. Hope that clears it up, and also reasons to make a site accessible. Also there will be a blog series on accessibility soon
More for your internal workings
URL’s – SEO friendly URL’s are helpful for (believe it or not as the name suggests) SE’s. This is where the likes of index.php?page=1&model=2 becomes /pagetitle/modelname. From this it is clear to see how it helps SE’s because you now have a more descriptive URL for your pages. But how to do this. Well if you have wordpress, there is setting for this. If not research .htaccess files and in particular mod_rewrite functions, they are quite easy once you get used to them.
If you can’t use .htaccess for whatever reason simply use directly relate directory names and file names, not useless rubbish like page1.html instead use aboutcars.html etc.
Sitemaps – This is a fantastic tool for showing google what is on your site and where. You need to submit them to google and other SE’s for the best results. a simple search on google for sitemaps will bring up automatic generators if you cant make one yourself. though be careful some give the same priority to all pages, not the best of ideas.
So moving on to todays topic External Opportunities
Link Building – This in general is one of the more important features of SEO work, getting a site “good, reliable and continual growth links” is very hard work, but the more you get of these links the more SE’s will rank you. If you get recommended by a website (for example BoagWorld, TWiT or Silicon [for web industry people]) SE’s will take you more seriously and rank you better than if you, say, just have links from your friends unrelated site, the same applies to blogs. A good way to make these links is to offer a link exchange, though only do this with relevant sites, even offer to just have their link on for a while.
If a site has a forum, talk in there, comment wisely but do not blatantly plug your website. build a reputation for being a good person and company then link, they will ban you for spamming, if you do spam! and you will instinctively if your not careful.
Finally remember these are references, almost as good as word of mouth, have a good reference and a visitor to a site becomes a client of your company.
Further to this it is important to know that you are better to have a link from one site with a page rank of 5 or above than several with a rank of 1.
Social Bookmarking / Networking – Although not as important for most sites, SB/SN is something that is become more and more important as the Internet continues to grow at a hugely under-estimated rate. If a site is Dugg (by digg.com), Stumbled (by stumbleupon.com), Red (by reddit) or Flurked (by flurk.net*), on a regular basis it will grow a ranking within these communities and more people will visit, your site will get known for being a great site and highly recommended by Internet users. However again these sites are tough on spam. Getting friends to help is a good way to avoid being seen as a spammer, the server see’s a new ip and knows its not you (or should i say thinks)….proxy is another way but this is black hat so i don’t suggest it.
Further to the above sites that allow microblogging such as TWITTER (twitter.com/andykinsey) allow for blatant spamming, but if you are good, update a few times a day or week you will gain momentum and following (like a blog) and people will follow you and visit your recommended sites. Just looking at some of my recent twitters i should really stop blatant self promotion, but i wont because i know SE’s like these sites (twitter and SN’s).
Word of Mouth – this is the most important part of any SEO effort, believe it or not. If your site is recommend by a person by talking it will stick in the human brain more than if you just get linked to a site, its why podcasts do so well (in general). Talking is a great tool, so use it, go to meet ups for your industry make friends with everyone and become the envy of everyone as you get their work. more to come on network meetings soon.
Business Cards - This is one of the final/first chances you will have to make an impression, good business cards sell you and everything about you and your company. Having a good business card is a key weapon in beating your competition.
Finally – (well almost) – ensure you submit your sites to every directory and search engine you can (beware some cost money like yahoo directory, but their SE is free).
In Summary
so heres what you have been waiting for… the overall summary, and i can finally release myself from my blog writing for this series, at least until your questions pile in again to admin*at*andykinsey.com
Andys SEO tips are:
Look after your meta data, and it will look after your site.
Refresh your content (both on your pages and your meta data) regularly.
Keep clean code, google will only read upto 40% of your pages at once (it is thought) so make the most of it.
Use Sitmaps and SEO URL’s
Avoid link farms at ALL costs.
Submit sites to all SE’s and directories
Link Exchange to the bigger websites in your industry
Gain a reputation via forums, and social networks, but do not spam (ask friends to help).
Most importantly – Make your site accessible and SE’s rankings will show favour to you.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Testing Different Google Adsense Formats And Getting Traffic To Your Site
Google adsense is a topic that many website owners know about but aren’t sure how to make it work for them. The bottom line when it comes to earning money with google adsense is traffic and you should know that traffic can be a challenging thing if you don’t know where to start.
To get the most from google adsense however, you will want to learn where to place your ads and formats that you should put them in. Having a high click through rate is important when it comes to your website so proper placement of your ads on your site is key.
If you have a blog, then one of the best places to host google adsense is on the top left corner of your blog. You want to put your ads here because this is where most people look first when visiting a website. You can sign up to Blogger.com and get your free blog and place adsense ads on there right now.
Another you will want to do is test whether or not graphic or text ads are working better on your website. Typically text ads will work best as it’s much easier to have your ads blend in to your website. Graphic ads have their place on your website also, and a combination of the two can be used for the utmost effectiveness.
To get traffic to your adsense focused website, you should optimize your site for the search engines. You will want to do keyword research before creating your website and will want to optimize each of your pages around a particular keyword. This will allow the search engines to gain a good idea of what your website is about and will make it easier for them to rank your website accordingly.
To do keyword research for your site, you should take use of Google’s free keyword suggestion tool. This keyword tool allows you to figure out which keywords buyers are searching for in addition to any hidden and obscure keywords. The hidden and obscure keywords are the keywords that you should be going for since they are low in competition and not too many people are optimizing their site around them.
When creating your adsense site, make sure that the theme of your website is unified. All of your pages should serve a purpose in relation to your site as a whole, and it will be best if you operate in a niche. Operating in a niche gives you the greatest chance of success, all while allowing you to operate against minimum competition.
You will also want to test out the different adsense formats that are available to you. The most popular adsense formats are the 300×250 medium rectangle, the 336×280 large rectangle, and the 160×600 skyscraper. These ad units are known to get the most clicks so be sure to start using them today to increase your income.
Take these adsense tips and start using them today. Good luck with earning money with google adsense.

ClickFraud is over 25% of all Clicks, can this be true?
According to my friends at Click Forensics, 22.3 of all clicks that they recorded in Q3 were considered fraud by their firm. If you are going to take this at face value, this means that one in four of all clicks recorded on the internet are fraudulent, meaning that many companies are overspending by at least that much and not seeing results. The culprit still is botnets and similar proxy scams, but as Click Forensics pointed out, the growth is mobile and video, with enormous amounts of fraud dom

Optimizing Your Dating Site: Getting it Found on Google
Optimizing Your Dating Site: Getting it Found on Google
So you have laboured intensively over your PHP, CSS, and HTML for months and months to finally unveil your ultimate masterpiece: a unique dating website with the most advanced chat and dating features available. Or, perhaps you finally pulled out the old credit card and purchased a readymade script, and have finally figured out how to successfully upload the thing onto the net. Either way, I’m sure you’ve already decided on the niche you plan to fill, be it for a specific geographical location, or a specific group or subculture. After all, creating a general and international site may seem appealing at first, but that niche has been way overfilled. Besides, who wants to join a dating website where the other 16 members are dispersed all over the globe? Nevertheless, the days and weeks are passing by, and the members you thought would flock to your new and amazing creation just aren’t coming, and even your closest friends aren’t checking their profiles anymore. It’s time to get your dating website noticed. It’s time to get found on Google.
The process of getting your website found on the search engines is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and the search engine you need to concentrate most of your efforts on is Google. Google is now king of the hill, and if you can impress this great king, it’s likely you will also impress the rest of the nobles (i.e. Yahoo, MSN, etc.). This will not be an easy task, as there are millions of other worthy subjects also desperately vying for Google’s attention. Unfortunately, Google only has room for so many at the head table. This is because the majority of internet searches never go beyond the first two pages. So if you’re not in the top 20 for at least one keyword or phrase, you might as well not even exist. So no matter how awesome you think your new dating site is, and no matter how much your friends say they like it, it will take a significant number of members to call the thing a success. So unless you’re planning on doing some local advertising, which can be a good idea at times, your best bet is to vie for one of these cherished positions.
The first thing you have to do is pick your keywords and phrases. These are the words and phrases that people will type into Google and ultimately find your site. Unless you have picked a domain name that already contains your keywords, like datingdivorcedgrandmothers.com, you will have to figure out what words people are already searching for in regards to your unique niche, and create a title tag with these words. The best way to do this is to find keyword tools on the internet to help you figure out what people are searching for. Opening up a Google Adwords account can be a great idea, if for nothing else but to use Google’s keyword tool. This will tell you how many times certain words and phrases are searched for every month. You’ll want to pick words and phrases that are relevant to your site, and that get searched for a moderate amount of times each month. You don’t want to try to optimize your site for the keyword dating, because there is simply too much competition. And unless you plan to spend a million dollars a year on an SEO company, as many of these sites are doing, you won’t stand a chance. Your best efforts are spent fighting for keyphrases like divorced dating or Detroit dating. Better yet: divorced dating in Detroit.
When you’ve figured out what keywords you’re going to vie for, it’s time to make sure you’ve placed these words in your title tags. I’m always surprised at how many new dating sites are using their actual name for the title. Nobody will be searching for: thegreatloveboutique.com, unless of course they’ve heard it somewhere. Once again, think of the words people will be using in their actual searches that could lead them to your site. When you’ve placed these words in your title tags, changing them up a bit for each page of your site, you then need to make sure you’ve also placed them in your meta-tags, along with dispersing them throughout the content of your site. You can even place these keywords in your alt tags for images, and title tags for links. However, don’t go overboard. If you use these keywords too much, Google will penalize you for what they call spamming. Try to keep it as natural as you can. If you don’t know how to do any of this, your best bet is to Google how. Without knowing how to do this, you’re site really doesn’t stand a chance.
Although there is a great deal more you should learn about onsite optimization (what you do to your site to get found), the majority of your time should be spent on acquiring links for your site (offsite optimization). This is when another website links to your website. Google considers this a kind of vote, and the more votes you get, especially from similar sites, the more Google will push you up the ranks. Now here is the process I would go through. First, submit your site to as many dating directories as you can. You should start with the high PR (PageRank) sites, and move your way down. If you don’t have a Google toolbar that shows PageRank at the top of your screen, get one. Google it and download one. The higher the PageRank, the more valuable the link will be back to yours. And the more links you get, the more PageRank you will get (just be warned that Google only updates their PageRank on the screen ever few months). Many of these directories will ask for you to link back to them. This is called a reciprocal link, and it’s a bit of a pain in the neck. If you know how to enter links into your code, do so at your best discretion. Reciprocal links can help, especially if they are from a relevant and high PR site, but they are not as valuable as a one-way link.
When you’re done with directories, it would also be a good idea to look for other dating sites that might want to trade links with you. However, be warned. Many dating sites will require you to first give them a link before they consider your site. You then take the time to enter their link on your site, and you never do hear back from them. Even though most website owners eventually remove the links to sites that never link back, these mean sites count on the few who don’t check. After a few weeks of trading links with dating sites and directories, you will likely want to put your head into a noose. The dishonesty and selfishness of even the most successful dating sites will absolutely astonish you. If you’re ambitious, you will monitor your backlinks (links to your site) every few months, because some sites will remove them to make your reciprocal link a one-way link from you to them.
All in all, however, directory links, reciprocal links, and 3-way links are not worth that much anymore. This is because Google is hoping sites acquire links the natural way. This would happen if someone really likes your site and adds a link to it from their own relevant site. If they use your keywords in the link, this link becomes even more valuable. However, you’ll find out eventually that not many people do this, unless a site is really, really amazing, or the content is especially unique or incredible. Nevertheless, it’s always a good idea to try to solicit links from people who do find your site. The best way to do this is to offer up a textarea box that contains your link code, using your keywords as the link or anchor text. Above the code can you can place a nice little note soliciting a link. Once again, not many site owners will do this for nothing, but every now and again you might be pleasantly surprised. Just don’t promise them a link back unless you’re actually intending to consider it. Way too many dating sites already practice this dishonest behaviour. Then, when your link requests have been strategically placed throughout your site, where admiring visitors can find them, you will probably want to consider advertising. Google Adwords now provides one of the most cost-effective ways of advertising. Ten Tips to Help your Web Site Rank Better in Google
Ten Tips to Help your Web Site Rank Better in Google
Over 80 percent of Internet users use Google to find products and services on the world wide web. It stands to reason that if you want to generate more qualified sales leads you need to rank on the first or second page within the search engines results pages on Google.
As Google gets more and more sophisticated with each algorithm update, search engine optimisation methods have to change to keep getting good results.
Here is a list of ten important tactics that you can use to improve your Google rankings.
Sign up for Google Adwords Although Google will deny it, anecdotal evidence suggests that Goggle favors Adwords customers over non-Adwords customers. This is true for new web sites that often take months to get spidered and indexed by Google. I have seen brand new sites get spidered, indexed and listed in the search engine results pages in as little as a week.
It doesn’t have to cost a lot either. You can set up a low budget campaign of 50 cents to one dollar a day and still get favorable treatment.
Use the right keyword phrase The most important factor in getting quality web traffic is to
optimize your web pages for the correct keyword phrase. Getting the most sales is often a balance between search volume for key words and level of competition. Use the Overture keyword tool and Google Adwords tool to research and identify your best keyword phrases. Look for keyword phrases that have high search volume, but low competition. It also pays to see what key words your successful competitors are optimising for.
Put your key word phrase in your title tag Forget about putting your company name in the title tag (unless it is a valuable part of the key words), it’s a waste of words and will not help you rank in the search engines. The first three of four words in your title tag should be the key word phrase you are trying to optimize for. Try to limit your total character count to 60 characters.
Write an attractive page description tag Title tags are for search engines, description tags are for people. Spend time researching and writing a description tag that compels the reader to click on your listing. Come up with a great offer, use action words. Use shock and awe. Use anything that will get them to click.
Use H1 tags An often neglected search engine optimisation technique is to put your keyword phrase in H1 tags on your page. This tells Google that the following text is about your keyword phrase. Google weights H1 tags nearly as highly as title tags. This tip alone can drastically improve your Google. Similarly, the use of bold and strong html tags can emphasize a key word phrase within the paragraph text where it may not be appropriate to use H1 or H2 tags.
Get the right keyword ratio Aim for a keyword density of around 3-5% of the page contents. Try to work your key word phrase into the page so that it reads naturally. This may take some research and analysis of successful web sites. Remember to use headings and sub-headings that include your key words.
Use alt tags and description tags on images Key words used image file names, alt tags and description tags add to the key word density of any web page. They doesn’t make a huge difference, but every little bit helps. In some product classes a Google image search may lead web surfers to your web site.
Get quality one-way incoming links through article marketing and directory submissions As far as Google is concerned; link exchanges are just about dead. They can help to get your web site spidered and indexed more quickly, but these days they add very little in terms of Google search engine rankings unless the link is on a trusted site and that site has excellent page rank. Wikipedia and DMOZ are examples of such trusted sites.
A more effective approach is to write interesting and informative articles and submit them to article directories. Make sure that you use the author bio/resource box to maximum advantage by using your key word phrase in the link anchor text, AND, by pointing the anchor text to the correct page. Your home page may not be the best choice of pages for your selected key phrase. This will also ensure that more pages than just your home page gets indexed.
Use Social book marking If you have something newsworthy, humorous, quirky, unique or shocking to say, submit a link to your web page to sites like digg.com or redit.com. These up and coming web 2.0 power houses can create a buzz overnight driving thousands of interested visitors to your web site.
Note, just because you build it doesn’t mean they will come. If it’s boring link it will quickly get buried by newer and more interesting stories. But what the hell, it’s free to submit links to these sites and you never know your luck.
Record a podcast Google loves podcasts … it just loves them. Get yourself a decent microphone and some podcasting software like Audacity and go for it. Once you have an interesting and tightly edited podcast, put it on your web site and submit it to all the major podcasting directories like iTunes and Podomatic.
