Are You Deliberately Keeping Your Website Out of the First Page of Google?

Are You Deliberately Keeping Your Website Out of the First Page of Google?

Search engines are very difficult to completely understand. There are no complete explanations of how their ranking algorithms work. But the very fact that the average person does not intuitively know how to crack the search engine algorithms leads to all sorts of questions; Usually variations of: “How do I get my website to the top of the search engine results pile?”

Now if you have been following my newsletter, you will know that search engine optimization is not magic or something equally difficult to understand. Instead, I learnt it as a step-by-step process and that is how I have always considered it. Nothing too fancy; in fact, I could probably summarize it all in the following points:
* An understanding of how search engines “think” .
* Knowing what search engines “want” .
* Learning proven optimization techniques .
* Applying your knowledge time and time again (experience).

Of course, SEO is not explained by those four sentences, but what they do is that they give you a structure within which you can learn and carry out SEO on your business with exceptional results. In short: Get it right, and do it better than your competition. But what does this have to do with today’s discussion?

Basically, when you have “followed” the SEO strategies to the letter, and are still not seeing your website rank anywhere near where it “should” be on a particular keyword, then you have one of the following problems:
* Your website may have been sandboxed (specific only to Google).
* Your website might be penalized or even removed from the index by a search engine for going against a stated guideline.
* A search engine might “think” that you are spamming them.

In the first case, you will have to “wait it out” with Google, while consolidating on your positions in the other search engines by continuously building links and adding content. The second case will never happen if you follow the advice given in my lessons; if your website is penalized, compare what you have done with what I have told you, and you will probably find out that something has gone wrong. However, like I said in the beginning, search engines are notoriously difficult to understand – and sometimes you can do everything right and still not be ranked correctly. Conspiracy theories apart, this is the part of the equation that search engines do not always get right. SEO experts usually term this as over-optimization , and like many SEO issues this one has a lot of debate on it in SEO forums about whether websites are actually penalized for over-optimization or simply banned for spam.

What exactly is over-optimization?
Over-optimization happens when your website is considered “too good” by Google – either in terms of a sudden volume of backlinks, or because of heavy on-page optimization. In other words, if Google considers that your website optimization is beyond acceptable limits , your website will be red-flagged and automatically restricted or penalized. There is a fine line between over-optimization and spamming, and it is on this line that Google can appear to err. However, this is not a mistake by the search engine – in fact, Google calculates rankings by considering thousands and thousands of different factors – and a lot of importance is attached to average “trends” within the niche / keyword range that a website is optimizing for. The bottom line is that over-optimization is non-spamming search engine optimization that is misread by Google as being beyond acceptable limits, thus leading to a penalty in search engine rankings.

What criteria does Google use?
To understand why Google can consider certain websites over-optimized, it is important to factor in the criteria that Google uses to rank websites. When fully indexing a website, Google does not just look at the optimization of the target website; it also compares the website with all the other websites that belong to the same niche / category / keyword range. Through this comparison, Google can then figure out the following:
* Is this website “way more” optimized than the current top ranking websites?
* In the past, have over-optimized websites been discovered as spam websites?
* What are the trends / acceptable limits for well-optimized websites in this niche/keyword range?

Since Google is automated, it cannot do what we do – look at the webpage and determine if the purpose is spam or delivering truly useful information. Instead, the search engine uses historical trends to predict what the acceptable limits of over-optimization are, and how likely over-optimized websites are to be found out as spam. In other words, your website may be red flagged as being a potential spamming website even though your only fault might be that you were “perfect” in optimizing your website while your competition was left far behind. Google takes both on-page and off-page optimization into account when checking for over-optimization / spam, and as such it watches out for over-optimization in all ranking factors – your backlinks and your tag optimization (meta tags, title tags, header tags) being most important.

A lot of what I am talking about becomes invalid if one tries any overt search engine spamming technique , such as stuffing your pages with keywords, white on white text (something I talked about in the first few lessons) or backlink spamming (building too many backlinks with the same anchor text in a short period of time. But it is also possible that you have followed advice and still have your website penalized for over-optimization. The real question then is: How can you avoid such penalties ?

Avoiding the trap of over-optimization
As I mentioned at the start of this lesson, search engine optimization can be boiled down to two simple steps:
* Getting it right and…
* Doing it better than everyone else .

In the context of over-optimization and avoiding unnecessary penalties, this rings especially true. If you optimize your website within search engine guidelines and according to proven optimization practices, you have it right. While putting too little time on SEO is a serious mistake, the search for perfection within SEO is a time-wasting and fruitless effort. Too much focus on getting the page structure “just right” can divert attention away from the more mundane but equally more important tasks – such as adding more content or monetizing the website.

The next step is to eschew perfection and find out what your competition has done. Suppose that you are optimizing your website for the term “landscaping”. Which of the following approaches would you realistically choose?
– Go full-throttle on your search engine optimization, spending as much time as necessary to get maximum value out of each word, link and page in your website, so that you can get the highest ranking possible.
– Analyze the top 10 webpages for the term “landscaping” and understand what optimization has been performed on them (natural or artificial). Calculate the number of backlinks, check for authority inbound links – and once you have figured out what your competition is doing, and do exactly the same – only a bit more .

The first approach might mean that you are guaranteed a top position on the search engines, but has two problems – you will waste a lot of time and resources in this search for perfection and more importantly, your website may be flagged for over-optimization. On the other hand, the second approach does just enough to beat the competition – without pushing you or your budget to the limit. Over-optimization is a phenomenon that is particularly difficult to figure out – how does a SEO expert really determine whether his new website is in the sandbox, penalized for over-optimization or just doing badly in the search engines? While trying to find out the real cause for your poor rankings may satisfy curiosity, you would be better served by following the “second approach” above.

Search engine optimization is a long-term, low-intensity process. You keep building links and adding content, so that eventually your website not only escapes the infamous sandbox but it also starts to rank really well on the search engines. And as for over-optimization – as long you follow search engine guidelines and don’t go too far above your competition, you will be fine.

Five Quick Tips For Getting Your Blog On The First Page Of Google

Five Quick Tips For Getting Your Blog On The First Page Of Google

It is so easy to make money with a blog. Whether the purpose of your blog is to get traffic to your sales page or to sell affiliate products or to get Adsense clicks, getting your blog onto the first page of Google can be done quickly and easily.

Using the following quick tips you could get listed on the first page of Google for some keywords within a month or two, depending on how competitive your niche is. A video game site that followed these tips got on the first page of Google, in the fifth spot, for a popular search term when the site was less than one month old.

Here are the five quick tips for getting to the first page of Google:

1. Put some original content on your blog. Post at least once a day but not more than every two to three hours. It doesn’t look good if you are posting every few minutes. Continue adding new content regularly. Some of the content can be duplicate content (from an article directory or private label rights articles) but the more original content the better.

2. When you have at least five posts with original content then submit your blog to Google’s sitemap. It’s not hard, and it only takes a few minutes. As long as you have a blog that looks authentic and is not filled with scraped content, this is a good start to getting noticed by Google.

3. Write some original articles and submit them to article directories such as EzineArticles, GoArticles, ArticleAlley, and SearchWarp. Do not submit more than one a day since it is better to not inundate the article directories or they might think you are spamming them. It is very important to have a good resource box with links back to your site.

4. Submit your RSS feed to at least fifty sites. This can be done in less than a couple of minutes using RSS Submit (RSSFeedsSubmit), a great piece of software that automatically submits your feed to more than fifty sites. The price is very reasonable (less than ) but if you don’t want to spend any money and would rather do it by hand, Robin Good sells a list of 55 RSS submission sites for a very small fee.

5. Get your URL link listed in as many places as possible. Submit your site to directories like DMOZ. Answer questions at answers.yahoo and include your URL with your signature. Leave comments on blogs that are in a related niche to yours, again including your URL in the signature. Do a search with the phrase “keyword add url” and add your URL at sites that allow you to do it for free. “Keyword” would be replaced by one of your keywords for your niche. Submit your blog to Technorati. Submit your original posts to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Netscape, Redit, Plugim, and so on. Be sure to tell friends to vote for your submissions at the social bookmarking sites.

These five quick tips will give your blog a powerful boost and get your blog on the first page of Google in a very short time. Within days you should be getting traffic from Google as you rise in the search engines. And you did it with spending little or no money.

Importance and Techniques of on Page Optimization

Importance and Techniques of on Page Optimization

SEO is divided into on page optimization and off page optimization. On page is which can be done to website itself and off page is which is done away from the website. Creation of right title for a webpage is classified as on page optimization. On the other hand creation of inbound links and their anchor text is termed as off page optimization.

On page optimization is one of the forms of search engine optimization. This acts as the vital requirement which is necessary to improve website rankings in major search engines like Google, yahoo and msn. In this process the elements of website are designed in this way that website is able to qualify for high search engine ranking on the basis of certain specific keywords. These are the basics which are often ignored by webmaster. They try to spend most of their time getting links to their site. If you want to make a successful online web presence, on page optimization is must. In on page optimization you need to have keyword in title tag and should also appear few times on the page.

Your website is focused on a theme, service or product. You need to select a unique keyword for it and this is the keyword on the main index page. Rest is secondary keywords associated with the main keyword. So there should be separate pages for secondary and associating keywords.

Your web page title tag must contain the keyword. It should be that word which you are targeting on a specific page. Do not use irrelevant words or website name in your keywords.

Make two sitemaps for your website. One site map is for a visitor that is in html format and other is for search engine which is in xml form.

Put quality content in all the pages of website and interlink on those pages on the basis of keywords used in the content.

Put emphasis on the keyword density. Keyword need to be there related with the product, services or the theme of the web page. Only on the basis of these the users are able to search for it in the search engines. Make sure keyword should used for a selected number of times so that keyword stuffing does not occur. So recommended keyword density is 5%.

Ensure your target keywords are used in h1 tag and displayed as strong italic and bold text wherever required. Make a practice to use the keyword in your opening paragraph at least once or twice and near to the bottom of page.

Every page of the website must have two Meta tags in the head section and other for your web page description and other for your web page main and secondary keywords.

Do not build a website with many pages in a short time, the search engines see the steady growth of website with the content and the number of pages they search for. Focus on providing the visitors the relevant information which they require.

Every image on the website must have an associated alt tag that must describe the image and include the content part.

Put emphasis on the inbound links.

Thus on page optimization factors are the base for search engine optimization for a website and which can not be ignored.

Get On Page One Of Google Without Any Back links

There is huge push right now among internet marketers to sell you software that will automatically get you backlinks to your site through RSS feeds or by doing auto submissions of articles. Don’t fall for it. Automating these tasks will most surely throw a red flag to Google and they will most likely eventually ban your domain from their search listings. Not that I’m against RSS feeds or article marketing, in fact I use them both, but if you’re going to spend your hard earned money on something to boost your search engine results at least spend it on a good SEO course.

Contrary to what you may have been told it is not that difficult to get on page one of Google through simple search engine optimization.  As a matter of fact over a longer period of time you will get to page one and stay there much longer if you do it through SEO than thru any tricky backlink maneuver. SEO is not as hard as you think. Will optimizing your site be enough to get you to page one in a very competitive market like “weight loss”? I doubt it, but it’s not hard to get to page one for longer tailed keywords. And I don’t mean 4-5 word phrases that no one ever searches for, but 2-3 word phrases that get search anywhere from 5,000 to 20,000 times a month. Doing SEO can get you on page one for them, no problem.

Most people believe that search engine optimization is some complicated project that is constantly changing. This simply isn’t true. The same honest SEO that got your site on page one a year ago will still be working 10 years from now. Proper keyword selection, choosing the right domain name, making your page title keyword rich and relevant to your content and naming your pages correctly will always work.

Auto generating keyword heavy content that makes no sense to the reader  will not. The engines have become way too sophisticated for that. No, instead trying actually writing some good content, keeping it focused on your topic and use tags like the “heading” tag and the right anchor text for internal links in manner that would make sense to real live human and the search engines will love you. It takes no less time to write good content as it does to try and implement some search engine manipulation plan that isn’t going to work for long. And a site with quality content will stay on top of the listings much longer.

Is there work that needs to be done up front? Of course. Doing keyword research to find out what search terms people are actually typing into the search engine boxes is a start. Once you’ve determined that it is actually quite easy to get a keyword rich domain name and build your content around what people are searching for. Remember it doesn’t do you any good to rank high for terms that no one searches with. Keep that in mind next time some guru gives you examples of sites that they have on page one. See if anyone is actually looking with those search phrases.

The rest of the work involved is mainly just writing to inform the reader. Creating valuable content on your site that keeps them there. Search engines pick up durations of visits, so make sure you have a site worth looking at. Creating a site as a source of information with the right keywords and you can be on page one of Google in no time.

The Front Page H1 SEO Trick

Author admin    Category Google     Tags , ,

A description of how a font that is size H1 can be part of a good SEO strategy as the search engine spiders consider keywords in that font to be more important.

If you want to search engine optimize your web page keywords using fonts then you might want to consider using the web design software Front Page to design your site. As you may or may not know, search engine spiders look for a block of a text when they are indexing your site. The theory is that when they find a keyword or a phrase in font that is written in an H1 size that it will consider that word or phrase to be of the most importance and index it accordingly in the search engine’s database.

In this particular instance your SEO strategy would be to first of all make sure that you are using Front Page to design your pages in the first place and second of all make sure that you have titles using the H1 header as part of your web copy somewhere on the page.

Are there any drawbacks to this strategy of using the H1 font? First of all it is considered to be a large (and some would say quite ugly) font. Although it has a great positive impact on the search engines, human beings seeing this might think that you have very bad taste in web design. The problem with fonts that are too big on a page is that they look like a five year old designed them. Oversized headers simply look immature.

This means you need to use these H1 Front Page style fonts sparingly if you want to make a positive impression on your customers. This of course also forces you to choose just one or two really good key words or key word phrases to describe your site that hopefully in turn will be picked up by the search engine spiders when it comes time to index your site for the search engine page rankings.

On Page Optimization: Analyzing Competition In SEO

A successful SEO process comprises of multiple steps and one of the important steps is analyzing competition. Competition plays the all important role in defining the growth of your business. If you undermine competition, you’ll be out of the market in no time. Hence you need to not only identify your competition but also see and analyze how they have positioned their website to sell their services or products.

There is no perfect or specific time for analyzing your competition. Whether you are at the bottom of the ladder or at the top, competition is always going to be there. The only thing that will change is the face of the competition, the tactics and the technology. Competition analysis will help you to find the way to the top of the table or in terms of page ranking.

This article covers the various on page factors like Meta tags, keyword density, etc. that will affect your standing in the face of competition and determine your fate in a SEO environment.

There are basically three key on page factors you need to consider for competition analysis and they are:

1. Meta tags and titles
2. Keyword density
3. Special formats

Meta Tags and titles

In the recent past, the value/usage of Meta tags has gone down but it is still important to add them on your site. More and more weight age is being given to titles as they make an SEO campaign effective.

When you analyze Meta tags and titles, you are basically trying to find a way to enhancing the performance or effectiveness of a keyword to attain optimum keyword density. If you check a KDA tool then it will tell you what percentage of your competitors tags contain the targeted/primary keywords. Some of the advanced KDA tools display the average of these percentages.

Keyword Density

Keyword density is one of the key driving factors for effective SEO. There has been a debate going on for some time now to decide what the optimal keyword density is. Many experts feel that it is unimportant but the truth is that most search engines look for the various on page factors and to make SEO possible or effective a certain percentage of your online content needs to have the targeted/primary keywords. The existence of a certain percentage of key phrases will indicate to various search engines that your web site is relevant based on a given phrase.

But on the other hand when we talk about keyword density, it doesn’t mean that your content will be crammed with keywords. You can always use an advanced KDA tool to help you find the optimum level of density for your business or industry. Once you get the keyword phrase, you can use it in the title and in percentages that vary from 1% to 3% depending on the requirement.

Special Formats

Special formats include different elements used within the content format like colors, highlighting, anchor text etc. The special format helps in making a particular part of the content stand out especially when a search engine is trying to spider your site.

Positioning is important for special formats as you need to position your keyword in the right places within the content on a particular page. You will also have to position the keyword and the entire content with respect to the page code.

A special format helps in positioning specific content and displays them as important with respect to the rest of the content. If you are able to use special formats well then it will certainly help you to improve your website rankings.

The bottom line is that competition will always exist whether you remain in the industry or whether you change your industry and the best way to fight it by analyzing it and getting ahead of it and always keep one step ahead!

Online Search Vs Yellow Pages Advertising by Former Yellow Page Account Rep

I worked in the Yellow Pages industry for over 9 years as an account manager for the two top yellow page publishers in this country. It was unbelievable to me how much business owners would spend on a product that they could only change their message on once a year? Plus, they were paying for an ad that would be bunched in with all of their competitors?

This was mind-boggling to me. What would you say if I told you that you could save thousands of dollars and have an extremely powerful web site and online marketing presence that would generate new pre-qualified customers to your web site and business through your front doors? They did receive some results but could the thousands of dollars spent every month be generating them more new customers in a different media. The answer was YES and is still YES!

Since I left the yellow page industry a few years ago and started my own Intnernet Marketing Company.  I love to sit down with current business owners that are wasting their hard earned money on yellow page advertising and show them how I can save them thousands of dollars and generate them more new customers!

First of all, my name is Chris Thomas and I am the President of Web Traffic Partners. After going to endless SEO (search engine optimization) and internet marketing seminars and training with some of the best online marketing minds in the country I can call myself an Internet marketing and SEO expert.  Don’t believe me? I’ll prove it to you with my proven results! A brief synopsis of my company is this: In a nutshell, I create unique, online marketing campaigns & web sites that are search engine optimized and that make money for my clients. It really is as simple as that!

We’ll get back to that in a minute. There are a lot of facts that people have to know when looking at the differences between Search Engine Marketing and Yellow Pages. Here are just a few major differences:

Yellow Pages are difficult to track and have limited tracking options. Online marketing offers extensive tracking options.

• Yellow Pages reach can only go so far and if you advertise in more than one directory it can get very expensive. Online marketing has an unlimited reach and is very cost effective.

• You can only change your advertising message on a yearly basis with Yellow Pages. You can change your message online at any time.

• There are over 13 billion searches on the web/month and growing. Yellow Pages receive an approximate 1 billion references/month and is losing more and more customers that advertise in the Yellow Pages every year.

These are some pretty powerful facts, right? Read below to see what this current client said in his testimonial…

“Thank you for providing our practice with what has been unquestionably the most effective advertising campaign we have to date. Actually, at this point I’ll probably downgrade my yellow pages presence next year since we have tracked nearly no new patient traffic from that media recently. I think most everyone uses the internet now for research on these types of services.”

Don’t believe me? Call me and I will show you the testimonial myself!

Anyway here are a few more of my PROVEN results:

* The second month that this Lansing MI Company’s new web site was visible on the search engines it had over 1,500 UNIQUE VISITORS! That was up over 800% from what they were receiving before I re-designed their site, re-optimized it and created & executed their unbelievable online marketing campaign! Did you hear me? Over 800% increase in unique traffic from their previous website!

* Within two months a Grand Rapids MI dental office was receiving 10-15 new patients/month directly from the result of their new web site and online marketing campaign that I created and executed!

* After the first four months of making this Lansing web site live and implementing my online marketing campaign, it generated over 5,000 new, unique visitors! I’ll prove it to you!

* I took a current Lansing client from no keyword related first page Google rankings to over 50 first page rankings in the first month!
