Common Mistakes On Twitter

Common Mistakes On Twitter

Common Mistakes on Twitter

Twitter is an exciting, cool, and extremely profitable social network site. Millions of people are now using the site to talk about various subjects. Indeed, it is a micro-blogging site for those who can’t stop talking. There are also common mistakes that most new users commit on Twitter. Before you start sending tweets, you must be aware of these common mistakes.

Mistake number 1 – the picture on your avatar is not yours. Most new users don’t post their real picture. They often use cartoon pictures, company logos, or their pet’s pictures. Although the pictures are quite cute, most Twitter users will appreciate a real picture of you. When you post your true picture on Avatar, others will think that you’re real and that you’re confident enough to let others see you. If you’re going to upload a photo, choose the ones where you give a beautiful smile. A smile can easily brighten the day of others.

Sending direct messages automatically through the AutoDM; direct messages are often impersonal and pushy. If you send this type of messages, you can lose your followers. TweetLater is another tool that sends automatic messages. When you use these tools, messages are automatically sent to those who follow you. A message saying ‘thanks for following me’ is fine but sending automated messages promoting your business or product is not a good idea and most people will just frown at them.

Do you have any followers? If you want to have followers, you need to follow people or you can at least create an interesting profile page. You can get followers by regularly posting updates. If you keep on following people and yet you don’t make updates on your page, you can’t get enough followers.

The 140-character tweets should be used to answer the Twitter question. Answering that question once a day may be enough to let others know that you’re interested in the community. You can post what you’re doing for the day or where you plan to go for the night. Tweets are great for starting conversations. You can also re-tweet other users or send them comments.

Check your numbers regularly. It’s not good to follow many people when you have very few individuals following you. Try to achieve balance. Make sure that the one you follow will also follow you back and you should also appreciate the ones who follow you. This is the easiest way to make friends on Twitter.

Use tools like Tweetdeck so that you don’t need to stay online all the time. Through this application, you can divide your followers into groups. Now, you can easily track them especially when they send direct messages and replies.

If you keep on promoting your business all the time, everyone will ‘unfollow’ you. No one likes a person who talks about his business or product most of the time. You must learn to respect others. As you may have forgotten, Twitter is a social network.

You must learn how to communicate and build good relationships before you start bombarding them with promotions. Even if you already have a god list of leads, it is still not a good idea to barrage them with promotions. Promotional tweets should be sent in limited numbers only.

These are the common mistakes committed by new and old tweeters. Take note of them and don’t commit the same mistakes.

Mistakes That You Want To Avoid When Marketing On Twitter

Mistakes That You Want To Avoid When Marketing On Twitter

Even as Facebook was just becoming a household name, Twitter burst onto the scene, and has rapidly become one of the hottest social networking sites on the web today. Internet marketers were quick to realize the enormous potential waiting to take flight in the early tweeting stage, when Twitter existed only as a glorified online texting venue. If you do not utilize it properly, Twitter also can yield poor results, like any marketing concept out there. If you put a little thought into what you’re doing beforehand, you can avoid those little mistakes that can derail marketing efforts on Twitter. As a public platform geared toward socializing, the possibilities for marketing are obvious -and incredibly easy to take full advantage of. Remember that Twitter marketing should be utilized intelligently, and do not forget that it can be abused if you are not cautious. To help you make the most of advertising on Twitter, we’ve examined the most common mistakes marketers have made below.

If you have a business, and you have customers or clients who follow your progress with Twitter, do not think that they are interested in being your friend. You have to remember that your prospects do not care about how great your service is, or the details of the product you are selling. The first person that your potential customers consider is themselves, and not you, the business owner. It will never make a difference how good the product is; your potential customers will never purchase from you if they don’t care about your product. What the really care about is how it can benefit them. So, above all else, the primary thought in every one of their minds is “What’s in it for me?” You should have no problems once you figure out how to answer that question and figure out how to get that across to your customer.

Another marketing error that people make when they begin to use Twitter is that they attempt to be a bit too mysterious. You will simply get ignored if people can’t figure out who you are. One way to clarify yourself is to create a biography that will hook your prospects, and include a photo so they could identify you. You shouldn’t waste a first contact with any prospect because your photo is impossible to make out. But always remember to keep things light in your biography. Yes, that’s yet another common mistake you can see people making on Twitter. Users on Twitter login to have some fun and socialize with others. Don’t complicate the lives of your potential Twitter following by being too serious. This is why it is important to keep everything light while you market seeing as how people want to socialize with those that make them feel good. As they become more familiar with who you are, they will begin to care more about the product that you represent. You want to give a picture of life to your advertising on Twitter.

It’s critical to remember that Twitter is a community and that you have to continue to participate on a regular basis if you expect to see positive results from your marketing efforts. That’s something a lot of marketers forget. You should not anticipate receiving, if you do not contribute. Fortunately for you, all to the mistakes that people make when they market on Twitter are easy to get around. Due to the community spirit of Twitter, your participation means following others who are in your niche a well as responding personally to any and all tweets sent to you. You should not anticipate results from “one way” tweets if you do not participate on a meaningful level with other individuals. You will need to gather and gain followers if you wish to use Twitter for successful marketing purposes; this is the subtle key to Twitter. To gain followers, you’re going to have to create value for them by sending out tweets with useful information that people are gong to want to read. You need to make your followers feel that they have been given something of value and then they’ll return the favor. It cannot be emphasized enough. Twitter’s a community. Throw off the suit and sit down to dinner. Be a friend, and watch Twitter work for you.

Become Aware Of These Typical Twitter Marketing Mistakes And Be More Successful

Become Aware Of These Typical Twitter Marketing Mistakes And Be More Successful

To date, Twitter has gained the reputation of being one of the largest attractions in the global social media craze. Short online messaging or tweeting as it’s officially called started off as a social akin to text messaging, but soon online marketers realized the power behind this useful communication tool. But each marketing tool uses Twitter in their own way. In order to get effective response, you need to follow the right way. You can totally destroy your hard work if you do not know how to utilize your marketing media. Employing these simple steps can help you avoid the common mistakes people make when trying to use Twitter to spread their message. The first important thing to remember when it comes to Twitter is that it’s actually a social site and definitely geared to the public. This is why your business will get enough exposure. This article will discuss the best ways to utilize the promotional potential of Twitter and stay on top of the possible mistakes you could make as well as knowing how to avoid them.

If you have decided to use Twitter for marketing, you can’t make the mistake of letting your followers know every little detail about your life such as “hanging out with friends”. A lot of marketers don’t behave in a professional manner when they use Twitter, and that can be a huge mistake. Your potential business clients are indifferent to who you socialize with during your off-time. Keep your tweets on topic; they need to be useful to your followers, and if they’re not seeing any good from your tweets, keep them to yourself.

There can be tremendous value in quieting this irrelevant clatter. You do need to make sure your Twitter account has a human presence, but don’t make mistakes that can adversely effect your reputation. You can help your followers by giving direct tips and techniques that they can use, but by giving them information about your life that no one cares about is a strict no no. Always maintain the image of a strong marketing professional, one that your followers will appreciate when times are rough.

You also should take care that your Twitter posts are not all about you. Your audience will demand an incentive to place their confidence in you. All people want to know what they will get out of following you. Instead of just being too occupied by yourself and your product, show them what they can get out of your offer. While you may focus on the “features” of your business, it is even more imperative to delineate the “benefits” to your audience. Also, don’t make the mistake of being too serious; leave that job for other people who want to be boring. Remember that the reason people are using Twitter is for socialization and enjoyment. If you get too serious, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to lose the interest of your followers.

Don’t put a corporate face on your Twitter account, that’s a big mistake. But it doesn’t work that way, as it needs to have a human face to it. And it’s all about making those interpersonal connections so that they feel they are part of something big. To represent your business to the fullest extent, you must put some personality into your Twitter campaign. This takes a little effort but it is worth in the end, there is nothing like knowing that the person on the other end is real. But be careful not to overdo your identity and appear snobbish. By coming across as snobby or aloof, your business could really take a hit. Always remember that Twitter is a social destination, and should always be treated as such. You should interact with the other people there without always “getting down to business.” Show real compassion and real concern whenever they have a problem or issue and try to help to resolve those issues when possible. It may seem contradictory and a little insane, but the best way to use Twitter as a marketing tool is to make it seem like that’s not what you’re up to.

How To Achieve Success And Avoid Mistakes In Your Twitter Marketing

How To Achieve Success And Avoid Mistakes In Your Twitter Marketing

Over the last several years, Twitter, an increasingly popular social networking site, has become a significant and continually emergent energy on the Internet. Marketers have discovered lately that Twitter is an awesome medium which they can use to meet people who share their interests, promote their products, and make money. But then again, it’s important to know how to achieve success with it the right way and the kind of mistakes you should avoid making.

There are several common mistakes made by marketers in their attempts to advance their products in Twitter. These are simple mistakes, and they can be easily sidestepped. We will discuss in this article how to avoid making these kind of mistakes so that Twitter as a marketing tool helps you achieve great online success. Even though to err is human, it is important to understand and grow from those missteps. But it is better to not make these errors, but to learn here what they are and how to avoid making them.

If you’re using Twitter for online marketing, you need to keep a little professional distance; your followers shouldn’t know all the little details about your life. A lot of marketers don’t behave in a professional manner when they use Twitter, and that can be a huge mistake. Your potential business clients are indifferent to who you socialize with during your off-time. If the tweets you are about to submit have no bearing on your audience, and offer little to no gain, then you might want to think twice before you tweet it.

There can be tremendous value in quieting this irrelevant clatter.

Though it’s imperative that you augment your tweets with a personal element, make sure it does not come at the cost of your business integrity. You do not want to give your customers information about your personal life at any time, but you should keep them updated with tips, techniques and other beneficial information. As a marketer you should have a strong presence – when things are going wrong for them, you want your followers to look to you for answers.

You also should take care that your Twitter posts are not all about you. Your followers must appreciate that you are a marketer to be trusted. They need to know what they will get out of their commitment to you. Demonstrate the plethora of benefits they will receive by your product or service, instead of solely focusing on promoting yourself. Highlighting your offer’s features is great, but it is more important to zero in on what the benefits will be. Another fatal error is to present yourself as dry and dull; let your competitors fill that spot. If you are too dry in your marketing strategy, your potential audience will shy away; after all, they joined the Twitter community because they wanted to have a good time and interact with others.

You will probably receive direct direct messages or replies from your customers; be sure to answer them personally. It tells your audience that growing your business is your only focus, with no genuine care for building relationships or long term commitment to your followers. By taking notice of their questions and providing adequate replies, you will prove that you bring a sincere concern for your audience. Again, it is your reputation which will suffer if you do not answer these questions promptly and intelligently. Your main concern should be creating an impression of trust and esteem. Of utmost importance is the vital call to action. Generating a profit and expanding your enterprise with Twitter marketing is your fundamental objective. Pay attention to the timing, and when the time is right, send out a post showing the value that you can offer your customers. After all, consumers will only purchase from you if your product meets their current need.

Twitter Marketing Strategies – Are These 4 Mistakes Costing You Money?

Twitter Marketing Strategies – Are These 4 Mistakes Costing You Money?

Twitter is an extremely popular and lucrative social networking site and is a great tool in your fight for traffic. Millions of people are now using twitter to converse on many different subjects all around the world, constantly. But before you start marketing on Twitter there are some mistakes that could cost you money if you dont avoid making them yourself.

1. Not using your own picture on your profile.

Although some twitter users do not use their own picture, they are missing out on potential followers because a real picture helps people connect with you and makes a good impression. Your own face on your profile allows others to know that you are a real person, not just a business trying to make money online.

2. Automatically sending direct messages to new followers that are sales messages.

This guarantees you will lose followers as quickly as you gained them. Only ever send out friendly, welcoming direct messages and not the type that tries to get your new follower to immediately buy something you are selling. It always puts people off, very few follow the link ion the message, and worse you might be losing followers by doing this.

It is possible that some will follow the link and purchase your product, but consider the overall cost of all those followers you have just lost. You get sick of salesmen, and so do your twitter followers, so dont be just another salesman. Instead just send a message that thanks them for following you.

3. Trying to get lots of followers without anything decent to post.

It is going to take you some time to grow your list of followers, so you have to be patient. You will not get many followers when all you are posting is that you are looking forward to using twitter, and those types of messages. If you have nothing of value to post yourself than simply retweet the valuable content of your niche market competitors. This is a great way of getting visitors to your profile, as people always like to see who is retweeting. Try and get yourself included in a discussion of others within your market.

4. Never send out one sales tweet after another.

If all you ever do is advertise your business all the time, without posting any other content type, then your followers will quickly get tired of this and stop following you. Think about this, why would anyone want to follow someone who only ever sells stuff and has nothing else of interest to say?

Twitter is for humans, not computers, so be friendly and do not over promote your business. Limit sales or advertising tweets to 10% of tweet content and keep the rest educational and informative. Try and post content that you would like to see yourself if the roles were reversed.

Although all this is mostly common sense, there are some twitter marketing strategies which are more complex, and perhaps best left to professional marketing automation products. These are not free, but the professional can see how to recoup such marketing expenditure in minutes when these twitter marketing strategies are in use.

Big Mistakes by Google Adsense Publishers

Big Mistakes by Google Adsense Publishers.
Google Adsense program is a popular web advertising program which provides a good income source for many websites. There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.

On my visit through sites and forums, I daily notice several instances of misuse of Adsense ads. So here a few helpful Google Adsense tips, probably many you already know, and few you might gain by knowing now. These ad sense fads are all picked from the Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.

1. Never click your own ad sense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason. You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Don’t even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks.

2. Never change the Adsense code. There are enough means of ad sense optimization & customizations available to change the color, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to color and placement, but you should adhere to the rules.

3. Do not place more than 3 ad unit and 1 ad links or 2 ad sense search boxes on any web page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it.

4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the ad sense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links.

5. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.

6. Label headings as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” only. Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Don’t make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.

7. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.

8. One Account suffices for multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believes me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.

9. Place ads only on Content Pages. Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, “thank you” or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.

New Twitter Users’ Biggest Mistakes: How to Avoid Them

I am not usually a big fan of rules when it comes to social media, but I do think there are ways to make your experience using tools such as Twitter more beneficial to yourself and others. There are some common mistakes I see new users make that I want to share with you. The good news is, once you are aware of them they are really easy to avoid!

Mistake: Not using a real picture of yourself for your avatar.

When I first joined Twitter over a year ago I was guilty of using a cartoon-type picture of me for mine. I thought it was cute and it happened to be part of the design I had on my previous blog. However, I switched to an actual photo of myself a few months later, and more than a few people commented that they were glad to see the real me.

I feel the same about others now. A picture of you is a lot more personable than a picture of your dog or a company logo. People like to see your smile!

Mistake: Automating pushy direct messages for new followers.

Many Twitter users use a service such as TweetLater to set up automatic messages to go to anyone who begins following them. This is a bit controversial among people on Twitter. If you are automating a friendly message to just say thanks for following me, that’s one thing, but a message with a link to one of your products when we haven’t even connected yet is generally frowned upon.

Mistake: Starting to follow people without posting a couple of your updates.

It may feel like you are talking to yourself to do this, especially if you don’t have any followers yourself. But when someone comes upon your page and is deciding whether or not to follow you, they need something to go on. People are looking for some sign of life or personality.

Mistake: Not spending a good amount of time interacting.

There is nothing wrong with letting others know what you did last night or what your plans are for the day. Just be sure to intersperse your tweets with some two-way conversation. Ask questions, re-tweet others, reply to questions, comment on others tweets, etc. This builds community and keeps things balanced and interesting.

Mistake: Mass following right out of the gate.

My ratio of followers to those I am following is pretty even, mainly because I like to follow back most of the people who follow me as long as they don’t look like spammers.

However, I find it hard to follow others who, in addition to having only a couple of updates, are following thousands of people and have only a few people following them. It feels spammy, like they don’t have much interest in having a relationship or conversation with anyone.

Mistake: Doing everything from the web instead of using a Twitter client.

Installing a client such as Tweetdeck gives you more functionality than what you can do from the Twitter website alone. For example, Tweetdeck allows you to place people in groups which make it easier to keep track of them, especially once you are following lots of people. Plus, you don’t have to be connected to the web to use these types of clients. I find they make tweeting a lot easier and more convenient for keeping track of your replies, direct messages and followers.

Mistake: All promotion, all the time.

As I have mentioned in previous articles, no one likes to follow someone who is constantly selling and promoting without giving anything back. Keep things balanced and respect that others do not want to be pitched all of the time. That being said…

Mistake: Not leveraging Twitter as part of your business marketing strategy.

If you are in business and using social media, you are looking at Twitter as a tool to get results in that business, not to just socialize all day. Remember that it is a great way to reinforce your brand, form strategic alliances and build credibility and trust.

Twitter: Common Marketing Mistakes

By Adrian Jock

Many internet marketers join Twitter for the purpose of promoting their products, for building their mailing lists, for keeping in touch with their customers or prospects, etc.

Nothing wrong so far …

However, if you don’t take care HOW you use Twitter, you may just waste your time or even worse … you can even damage your reputation.

You don’t want this to happen, do you?

Then … take care and avoid these mistakes …

MARKETING MISTAKE # 1

Letting your followers know EVERY LITTLE thing you do. Like “Drinking my coffee”.

Decide what you are. Are you a marketer or not?

Who do you think that cares when you drink your coffee? I bet that not even your mom!

If at a certain moment in time you have nothing important to say or you cannot help anyone, then … don’t say anything.

Sometimes silence is better.

If you want to show a human, friendly face instead of a corporate one, that’s a good approach, no problem. But …

Do it not by telling your followers when you drink your coffee but by trying to help them when they need and by offering them free tips & resources.

MARKETING MISTAKE # 2

Setting up automatic direct messages that are sent to ALL your followers but contain a message that is targetted to a very narrow niche that excludes many of your potential followers.

Here is one of the funniest DM I received:

“Free ebook ‘Internet Marketing Essentials for Newbies’ with subscription at …(link removed)”

Well, if you bother to read my short Twitter bio, then you find out within seconds that I’m the CEO of an ezine advertising network, not a newbie.

What someone may think about you when receives such message? “You’re ridiculous.” Or … “You’re a newbie”, or “You’re not professional”, or “You’re not polite”.

Is this the result you were looking for?

MARKETING MISTAKE # 3

Not responding to direct messages or replies that require an answer from you.

When you do this … it’s like saying, “I don’t care what you say or what you need, I only want you to signup for my mailing list and buy my products”.

If this is how you understand that a prospect has to be treated, you better try something else other than internet marketing.

MARKETING MISTAKE # 4

Don’t understanding that your tweet is actually a headline.

If your tweet is “Check this out: …(link)”, you have just wasted your time by writing that tweet.

Any marketer should remember what David Ogilvy said: “When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.”

To Your Success!
