Insurance CE – Worth the Investment

If you are an insurance professional, you would be well aware of the statutory requirements in the field of insurance – of continuing education (also known as CE) each year so that your license remains up to date.

Insurance CE is a huge industry; and there are hundreds of training centers across the country which survive solely on insurance continuing education. As the number of insurance agents in the country increases, there is more and more demand for continuing education, as it is mandatory in all the states to have a prescribed number of training hours attended each year, failing which the insurance license may be revoked.

But like many other things, insurance CE has also gone online, and in the last couple of years, there has been a major increase in the percentage of people who have shifted online for their training hours. In the beginning, the large training institutes shifted online and the certification was done from their local centers. However, today, there are superb online institutes which have been set up solely for the purpose of Insurance CE. Some of the best ones even allow their visitors to read through all the material online for free – even without registration, and then pay for the examination. Even the test is done online, and certification also is done through a secure server through the website itself. Since the whole process is done online, the insurance professional need not worry about booking a slot and attending classes at a training institute locally. From the comfort of his own home, he can log on, read all the topics any number of times, and then attempt to take the test.

The mandatory topic of Ethics is the first paper that people will need to take, and for every additional paper they attempt, the pricing structure is different. One thing, however, is certain. The investment it takes for people to get certified online is nothing when compared to what a training institute would charge you outside. That is one more reason (and a major one at that!) as to why a great number of people prefer to shift online for their insurance CE. Since the number of hours is to be logged every year or every couple of years (depending on the state) for the insurance license to be valid, it would amount to quite a bit of savings in the long run.

If you are not familiar with insurance CE yet, get there! You will enjoy it. You will not only fulfill your state requirements, but you will learn a great deal with every course you take. You will learn about new laws, sales tactics, and different products and services available for your clients. Whether you decide to do classroom CE or online, make sure you pay attention to detail and learn as much as possible. I would suggest taking your courses online, they are fast, easy, and affordable. You don’t have to sit in a classroom and it all ends with a short multiple choice exam.

What You Need To Know About Choosing an Online Insurance CE Provider

Completing your insurance continuing education courses and receiving the required state credits you need is an important part of keeping your insurance license each year. Therefore, its important which online insurance ce provider you choose and what options they have available to you. A current study from Agent Media showed that 67 percent of people now obtain at least several of their insurance CE credits on the Internet. It actually is the best efficient choice, saving money on traveling and from losing time away from the office while you are being instructed in the classroom. Because of its growth in popularity, there are many Internet based companies now making online insurance continuing education classes available. How do you make a selection from all of these options to figure out who is the best insurance CE provider for you?

You should consider the following five questions before registering for your next course:

Does the supplier give you excellent quality, interesting coursework?

Online insurance CE courses should use the multimedia (such as audio, video and animation) ability of the Internet to make the most of the educational experience. The coursework should be created by well known professionals in the industry, should follow the necessary format, and should be accredited in all 50 states. Request a free sample course to be certain that the instructor meets these standards. Also, look at the provider’s class manual to be certain there are adequate choices of courses so that you can obtain all the training that is necessary from one source.

Does the provider keep track of your online course results and that of your employees?

For you to remain compliant, the results of your insurance continuing education courses must get into the right hands in a timely manner. Look for an insurance CE provider who will handle that for you without additional paperwork on your part. The whole idea of getting your required credits online is to make the process faster and more efficient, so make sure your provider will track all your courses automatically, inform you of the courses you still need to take, and report your results to state within two to three business days (as allowed by your state’s licensing board). You should also immediately receive a Certificate of Completion when you pass a course, so you’ll have proof in-hand when needed. These services should be available to you at no additional charge.

Are the courses flexible enough to fit your schedule?

Online learning has made it possible to take your insurance CE courses anywhere and anytime you have a web connection, but sometimes it’s still difficult to find the time to sit down and complete a course in one sitting. Look for an online insurance CE provider that allows you to save your sessions and pick up where you left off, so you can truly work at your own pace.

Can you re-take courses without additional charges?

Once you have paid for a course, you should be able to review it as many times as you want without being charged again. You should also be allowed to re-take the exams as often as you need to pass the course and earn the credits.

If you are going to be away from your computer, can you take the course material with you?

Just because you are taking a web-based course, you need not be tied to the computer the entire time. Look for a provider that will allow you to print out pages from the course material for later review. Also, your provider should allow you to download the audio from multimedia courses. These audio downloads can be saved like a podcast to your MP3 player for even more flexibility. You can review the information while on the road, exercising, doing housework — anywhere you can use you iPod.

The emphasis of insurance continuing education is to make sure you stay abreast on all the current news in insurance services and regulations. When you receive the best possible training, both you and your clients will reap the rewards. Finding a high quality, accredited online continuing education partner is the first step in maximizing the benefit to your business, and it’s worth the effort to do your homework.

Are You an Insurance Professional? Learn How an Online CE Provider May Be Right for You!

Like many other service professionals, registered Insurance agents and adjusters are required to stay up to date with the latest rules, regulations, and best practices of their industry through regular Insurance Continuing Education (CE) training. While each state has its own unique licensing requirements, all states require some level of periodic Insurance CE to maintain a license in that state.

Each state’s insurance licensing board usually requires a number of continuing education credits be attained every two years.  The training provider must be certified to teach in the state in which the insurance agents are licensed.

The insurance professional now has a couple of options in regards to how they receive their training. In the past training followed a traditional approach; a classroom setting in which a lecture is given and an exam taken.  Once the exam is passed the results are sent to the state’s insurance licensing board to be recorded.  When the trainee has completed sufficient credits by the deadline, they receive their license renewal for another two years.

There are certain advantages gained by learning in a classroom environment.  Most everyone went through school in a similar learning environment and so it is a familiar venue.  Insurance agents and adjusters can meet each other, network, compare notes and discuss the lecture. There are some disadvantages to this learning model, however which include:

The costs associated with this kind of training are high due to the need to rent classroom space and hire a professional trainer, as well as the associated travel and lodging costs.

Most classes are offered during the week during business hours, causing lost productivity.

Completed course credits usually need to be reported by the trainee to the licensing board.

Insurance is a very competitive business.  Time away from the office may result in lost opportunities or a backlog of work which needs to be attended to.

Online insurance continuing education provides a number of benefits which address the shortcomings of traditional classroom training. Some of the advantages include the following.

The cost of training is lower than a classroom based course.  Often it is a percentage of the usual cost.

Training can be undertaken at any time of day or night.  One is not locked into being present at any particular time, allowing studying to take place when their schedule allows for it.

Students can traverse the course materials at their own pace.  Lessons can be revisited until all concepts are understood.

Several online providers allow test retakes at no extra charge.

Insurance professionals who are licensed in more than one state can receive their accreditation all at once.

Many insurance CE providers report achieved training credits to the licensing board automatically, in the states where this is allowed.

Individual insurance CE deadlines are mailed to the license holder as a reminder to complete their licensing requirements before the deadline occurs.

Insurance companies that sign up their employees for training can keep track of training requirements and monitor the licensing status of each employee through a web interface.

Online training courses are typically delivered via slide presentation using a computers web browser. Most people know how to use a web browser and therefore require no additional training.

Some online Insurance CE courses now provide multimedia support that augments the presentation slides. Insurance professionals should choose an online Insurance CE provider that includes audio training as a complement to on-screen slides. For example, the audio can be downloaded as a “podcast” and the insurance professional can listen and learn while driving to an appointment.

If you are an insurance professional and are considering using an online provider to complete your insurance CE, you may be able to find special deals that offer unlimited courses for a fixed price.  This can save you a lot of time and money, not to mention the convenience of being able to study at the location and time of your choosing.
