Preparing Yourself to Be Googled

Preparing Yourself to Be Googled

In this fast pace, high tech world of ours, more and more folks are turning to one single resource that will allow them to identify and evaluate other folks and their Internet expertise. It’s called “being Googled”! Being Googled is the new trend of evaluating someone whom you are considering to do business with on the net. How do they do it. Its rather simple, they go to their Google browser, type in your name, and see what appears.

Unfortunately, if you have not prepared yourself to be Googled then more than likely they will not be doing business with you. The question we are now confronted with is: “How does one prepare themselves to be Googled?” Therefore, the objective here is to be readily available when Googled. Obviously, preparing yourself to be Googled on the net is rapidly becoming a high demand, and the term being used to prepare yourself on the net is “You,Inc”. So, how does one go about getting themselves “You,Inc” on the Internet? Believe it or not, it is not all that difficult, and you can do it for pennies. Just follow these six easy steps.

STEP ONE: The first website you want to visit is EzineArticles.com Here you will be asked to write a article that will be published. Pick what ever subject matter you have any expertise in. It does not matter what the subject is, fishing, cooking, stamp collecting, Internet Business, writing a story, fiction or fact, what ever. The point is you want to get into the search engines. EzineArticles.com is FREE. Write something that will show who you are. Your article must be a minimum of 250 words and can be up to 5000 words.

STEP TWO: Next, go to linkedin.com This site helps verify who you are. It allows you to be identifiable. It connects you to your people, or in other words, it links you to the net, thus the name linkedin.com Take your time here. Pick your connections wisely. Are they people you want to be identified with? Do they have some Internet connections? Are they business oriented? Are they business owners? Are they positive folks? You will want to develop 20 or more links at this site. By the way, this site is FREE as well.

STEP THREE: If you already don’t have one, go own you space at Facebook.com This is an important task. Make sure you complete all of the requirements here. Fill in all of the blanks. Have fun while you are doing this. Remember, folks will be reading you. Let me give you a tip here. I would imagine the reason you are doing all this is to promote your Internet business. However, this is not the place to do that. If you Facebook is filled with nothing but business it will be a big turn-off. This site is not about business, it’s about you. This site is FREE as well.

STEP FOUR: Own your own site. Build your own website. There are a lot of website builders out there that are comparatively easy to use and affordable. One site builder I would feel comfortable in suggesting can be found when you join intuit.com Whatever the case, if you are going to do business on the net, then you need your own site. If you just want to build a personal site, that’s OK as well. The point here is you want to own your own site.

STEP FIVE: Buy your name. Own a URL with your name in it. Such as (yourname).com Mine is jmikejones.com Although you can buy your name with a lot of endings such as .net or .info I would suggest you stick with .com. There is no need to spend a lot of money owning a lot of spots. You will find that .com will be sufficient. As you go about doing this you may find your name has been bought by someone who has the same name as you do. That’s OK, simply add a number to you name such a yourname010.com. Once again, the objective here is to get your name out there.

STEP SIX: Build your own blog. Blogging is big on the net. It allows you to add thoughts and info on a daily bases. You can develop your own group of bloggers, you can join other groups of bloggers. Bottom line is you can put your info out there each and every day if you want at no cost. And it is another way of letting the world know who you are and what you are about. Word of caution here, think professionally when you are blogging.

PROFILE TIPS: First and foremost: The big secret in being successful is remembering the law of attraction. What you put out there is what you are going to attract. Think about who and what you are.

Secondly, be normal. Have fun out there, enjoy what you are doing. Let people know that life is good.

Thirdly: The main reason you are doing this is to promote a business however remember that people love to buy but hate to be sold. So put relationships first, business second. Spend time making new and old friends out there.

Another little tidbit of info I love to pass along is understanding the law of attraction. What you put out there is what

To Google or Be Googled

To Google or Be Googled

It was just yesterday that an old friend of mine got in touch with me by Googling my first and last name. He found all sorts of articles, which mentioned my name, including my own website as #1.

Googling Your Name is Money in Your Pocket

This reminded me of a client I had who was nowhere to be seen when you Googled their name. This was a huge problem since they were 100% referral and many people searched for their company name on the Internet to find their website. It took two months for them to start showing up, but when they did, it was a HUGE money maker for them. Potential customers who had been referred were finally able to find them.

With the pursuit of optimizing a site for certain keywords, so many companies forget to optimize for their own company name.

The Proof is in the Puddin’

A recent study by Nielsen//Netratings suggest that when web users know the name of a website, they prefer to type in a domain name in the “search box” of Google or Yahoo, rather than typing a domain name into the browser bar.

What does this tell you? Well, it says that if someone has heard of your company, they’re either going to type in your website name or your domain name into the search box and your website better be ready and waiting at the top of the search engines.

Do YOU show up when your name or company name is Googled?

Here’s How You Do It

To search engine optimize (SEO) your company name on your website, here are some tips. (This isn’t an exhaustive list of all that you can do, but it’s enough to get you started.)

** Choose one page on your website to optimize for your company name. It might be your Home page, Contact Us page or About Us page. I recommend your About Us page – it seems that it’s easier and better to talk about you on that page than any other page. Conversely, the Home page should be all about them (What’s In It For Me?) – not about you.

** Add your company name to the ALT tags where possible. ALT tags are the tags that are connected to the images of your website. Search engines don’t index images, so any text on your site that is in the form of an image won’t get indexed. The search engines read the text and the keywords in the ALT tags instead.

** Add your company name to your Meta Tags: namely, Meta titles, Meta description and Meta keywords. A recent study showed that only 34% of Web site owners knew enough to include a simple keyword Meta tag on their website. Therefore, if you add a keyword and properly optimize the rest of your page, you’ll be doing more than 66% of website owners. Of the 34% of owners who DO add Meta data, so many forget to add their company name to the titles, description and keywords! They only remember to add keywords related to their products/services. If YOU remember to do this, think how much further ahead you’ll be…

** Add your company name as a keyword to your chosen page’s body and work it into the content at least 3-4 times. Try to place it one time nearer to the top of the page body. Repeat your company name at the start and end of your paragraphs and near the end of the body. That way, search engines won’t make any mistake about the content since your company name is used repetitively and throughout the content.

** Where possible, include your company name within your hyperlinks. For example on the Home page, you could include the words “Contact XYZ Company” within the hyperlink copy instead of just “Contact Us”.

** Finally be patient. With these steps and ONLY these steps, I helped one company go from not showing up on Google at all, to #1 in Google for their company name.

How To Get Your Site Googled Quickly And Cheaply

Not so long ago there was a booming cottage industry that catered to novice internet marketers who were in a bat-outta-hell rush to get their websites indexed by Google.

The purveyors of those services that catered to the burgeoning get-indexed-quickly-by-Google crowd usually directed internet marketing newbies to buy expensive one-way links for the duration of one month from high page rank websites or more specifically, high PR web pages.

Such links commonly cost as much as $800/month (not an expense for the faint of heart, as you can see). But why would someone shell out that kind of money for one measly link?

MYTH 1: BEING INDEXED BY GOOGLE MEANS LOTS OF TRAFFIC

A lot of new marketers think that once they’ve got their site indexed by Google, they can sit back, relax, kick off their shoes and contentedly watch the show of internet traffic snaking its way to their website. If you happen to have been (or still are) a student of this school of thought take consolation in the fact that you were (are) not alone, not by a long shot!

How come?

Because seo practioners of the day certainly weren’t about to go out of their way to disavow such a misconception; after all it was very much in their interest to perpetuate the myth. How else would they convince you to fork over a princely sum for a mere one-month link? Anyway here’s how the technique worked:

When you bought a one-way link on a webpage with a page rank value of 7 and above you were guaranteed of getting your website crawled by the googlebot within 24 hrs at the outmost which by proxy ensured that your site was indexed within 24 hrs. If your link was found on a web page with PR8 and above, your site would be indexed by Google within hours thanks to that high page rank link!

MYTH 2: BEING INDEXED BY GOOGLE MEANS A TURBO-CHARGED DASH UP THE SERPs

The 2nd selling point for acquiring an expensive one-month one-way link was the premise that your website would accelerate up the SERPs once it was indexed by Google. (SERPs stands for search engine rank pages which is just a fancy way of referring to the search engine page that lists relevant websites in response to your query). Obviously the higher up the SERPs your website gets, the greater the traffic flow!

But like any over-inflated bubble this one too had to explode, and so it did in time. With increased awareness and knowledge came new understanding of budget techniques that worked just as effectively.

Besides Google effectively nullified the system by introducing the Link-Aging Filter which is an algorithm tweak that negates any influence that any new link may pass to your website or blog until said link has been in place for a certain amount of time. The interval of probation varies from link to link and appears to be based upon the competitiveness of the keyword incorporated in your back-link.

The Link-Aging Filter hence effectively nullifies the technique of acquiring short-term links in order to get your website indexed rapidly by Google or accelerate your website up the search engines.

TECHNIQUES TO GET YOUR WEBSITE GOOGLED QUICK AND CHEAP!

1. Submit an original article to a high page rank article directory; don’t forget to include a back-link pointing to your website with the anchor text of your choice!

This technique works as follows: article directories are content rich sites (a quality Google loves) and assuming that the directory has a high page rank, you can bet that the googlebot (google crawler, google spider, it all means the same thing) will crawl such a site several times a day. When the googlebot comes across your article it will continue its eternal crawl across your back-link to your site and Hey Presto You Just Got Googled! (Well at least your site did.)

2. The second way to get your website googled fast and cheap, is by getting a back-link pointing to your site on one of the popular tagging websites which includes the likes of: Digg.com, Technorati.com, del.icio.us to name but a few.

The trick here is not to get lost in the sea of over-popular keywords; in other words, since you’re aiming to attract the googlebot not eyeballs (human internet traffic), tag your website with a little-used-little-known keyword! Once again these sites are crawled multiple times a day and tend to have a page rank value of 8 and above!
