Kissing Google on the Lips: 10 On-Site SEO Friendly Website Tips that Google Loves

As the Search Engine Marketing Specialist for a Boston SEO organization I know the importance of online marketing. Setting up an SEO friendly website is a great way to increase your overall keyword rank and ability to be indexed by the search engines for a variety of related keyword iterations. This however is much like a relationship and it’s a constant struggle to continually keep Google happy, but with hard work comes the greatest rewards. I’ve outline 15 tips to use when optimizing your website for Google.

Title Tag:
Add unique and keyword rich title tags to each page of your website. Remember that each page should have it’s own unique title tag. Keep most important keyword at the front of the title tag. Do keyword research using the Google Keyword Tool and find keyword iterations you have the ability to rank well for. Keep your title tag to a maximum of 65-70 characters. In terms of SEO, this is a very important component.

Description Tag:
Description tags are just like title tags, the only difference is the amount of characters you can use and the relevancy that is placed on the tag. Description tags are a little less relevant that title tags. Keep your description tag to a max of about 160 characters.

Internal Link Building:
It’s important to add internal links to your site. If you want to increase relevancy to a particular page, hyperlink the keywords you want to use to the following page. You can essentially increase page rank for certain pages internally.

H1-H6 Tags:
H1-H6 tags usually consist of the headers for your site. Make sure you include keywords that are relevant to the pages you are providing on your website. As the search engine reads the page, emphasis will be place on these tags and your webpage may be more preferably indexed.

Alt Tags:
Remember, Google cannot index images unless of course your have the proper “alt=” tag. It’s beneficial to keyword rich content to your images, but make sure you are not overloading the tag or you may be flagged.

Sitemap:
Creating an XML sitemap is the best way to increase your likelihood of being indexed for new webpages. In essence, the sitemap assists with the search engines ability to quickly update your search results and the indexed pages of your site.

301 Redirect:
Make sure that both URL types (“www.” and “http://”) point to the same location. If you do not establish a 301 redirect then the search engines will think each URL is a separate location and any off-site links you build to your site will lose link juice.

Content/Keyword Density:
Make sure that the content you add to your website is relevant to the information on your site. Keywords should be throughout the content so that search engines are able to place emphasis on particular keywords.

Blog:
It’s important to create a blog for your site. Think of each blog post as an individual landing page for your site. You can index very well for blog posts because your blog is being constantly updated. The search engines will visit your site more frequently when you update your blog, because they have new fresh content to index.

Create RSS Feed:
This step ties in great with your blog. An RSS Feed allows the viewers of your blog to get automatic updates whenever you add a new blog post to your site. If you update your blog frequently your RSS feed with be updated. This will help you maintain your viewership and overall links to your site.

7 Budget Friendly Internet Marketing Tips

7 Budget Friendly Internet Marketing Tips

It seems everyone now is watching their money and looking for ways to stretch their marketing dollar. Here are 7 Budget Friendly Internet Marketing Tips. Every tip listed can be implemented for under 0 (for the entire year) plus a little elbow grease! How?s that for stretching your dollars!

1. Get a website- a year or less

If you?ve got one-great-make sure its updated. If you don?t have one you need two things to get one up by the end of day. You need a domain name and then domain hosting. You can do both at GoDaddy.com or HostMonster.com. You can walk away with a basic plan for less than 0 a year. Next, Install WordPress and the Atahualpa* theme (google ?Atahualpa wordpress theme? to find) and build a quick website. Do not get roped into using the website builder software that comes with web hosting. WordPress is FREE and comes a lot of support from others who use it at wordpress.org. Bare minimum your website needs is information on how to contact you (phone/email/physical location), list of your products services. Add some pictures and you?re good to go.

2. Start Blogging-FREE

Why? How? Oh my! Here?s how to make it really simple. Again, you?ll need WordPress and the Atahualpa theme installed at www.yourdomain.com/blog (ask your hosting provider how to do this if you don?t know how). Then 3 times a week- type a brief message/article/how-to tip/customer interview/monthly special as a blog post. You can google things like ?blog post ideas for small businesses? and get a lot of tips on things to blog about.

3. Create a Facebook Page for Your Business-FREE

Get your business a Fan Page set up on Facebook. Go to: http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php and walk through the step for setting up a Fan Page. After you set up a Fan Page-send an email to all your current clients and customers asking them to join. Whenever you make a blog post-send an update to your fans. Also keep fans updated on specials or discounts that your business might have. Think about offering a ?Facebook Fans Only? special.

4. Create a Facebook Group-FREE

A business Facebook Group will let you communicate and get to know your current customers. A group allows you to privately message members much like someone being on an email list. You can also have discussions in the group about products or services that you offer.

5. Create a Twitter Account-FREE

Local News stations, police departments and local newspaper have started using Twitter to keep followers up-to date. After you set up a Twitter account, invite all your current clients and Facebook Page friends to follow you on Twitter. Then begin watching the conversation. Start by re-tweeting what others have said. That means copying something that some else has said in your tweet update box and putting a ?RT? in front of the message then sending it out to your followers. This allows the message to be seen by others in your group that the original message might not have been seen by. It builds trust and loyalty. People like when you acknowledge what they say or do. Then tweet about things that are going on with other local businesses that are tweeting.

6. Start or continue your email newsletter-0 or less

If you are blogging this can seamlessly be tied together so that every blog you create automatically gets emailed out to your newsletter subscribers. I recommend iContact for this as their service allows for autoresponders, email newsletters, surveys and RSS feeds. If you are blogging 3 times a week-there are 3 emails that go out to your subscribers every week! Plus if they like the article it?ll drive traffic back to your website.

7. Set Up Google Alerts-FREE

Go to alerts.google.com (you need to have a gmail account-create one if you don?t already have) and type in the name of your business in the ?search terms?. Select Type: ?Comprehensive?. Select ?How Often?: As-it-Happens and have it delivered to your gmail address. This service will send you an email anytime your company name is mentioned.

Also set up google alerts for general industry terms or products that are related to your business. This will provide you with ideas for writing blog posts as well as quickly keep you updated on what?s being said about your business and your competition.

There you go! If you?ve already got all these in place-Super Job! Watch out for a future article on ?Advanced Budget Friendly Internet Marketing Tips!?

Google Friendly Techniques for Getting your New Site Crawled and Indexed

You know how Google can deliver free website traffic. More than the other search engines like MSN or Yahoo! combined.

However, you may have heard the rumor that Google puts new websites into what people call the “sandbox.” Its supposed to be like a “waiting list” where new websites aren’t included in their search results until a “certain amount of time” has elapsed. How or why this rumor got started isn’t clear.

Many Internet Marketing “experts” have capitalized on this rumor. They say their software can get your new website crawled and indexed by Google and avoid the “sandbox.”

Many of us are impatient and want to get fast results, so we easily fall for the hype in the sales letters that promote these questionable products.

Unfortunately, some of these products can give you only short term or mediocre results.

Examples of these questionable approaches include building hundreds or thousands of blogs and posting links to your new websites on each. In one case, Blogspot or Blogger blogs, own by Google, will disable all of your Adsense ads if you create hundreds or thousands of fake blogger accounts just to earn income from Adsense.

Another tactic is to use software that automatically posts your link into the comment sections of hundreds or thousands of other people’s blogs. Owners of these blogs consider this spam and can report your website to your web hosting company who may decide to disable your account.

Why take the risk with such a high penalty to pay for questionable results when there are legitimate ways to get your site crawled and indexed by Google?

Two legitimate methods can achieve immediate results without getting you into trouble with bloggers or Google.

Getting your site listed in directories is the easiest way for Google to discover your new website and get your web pages crawled and indexed. There are hundreds of directories, which organize websites under different categories. Many of these directories have good Page Rank and are easy to get into if your site meets their submission criteria.

Submitting articles with your link in a resource box to article directories will also help get Google to discover your new website and get it crawled and indexed. There are hundreds of these article directories which also have good Page Rank and will accept your articles if your article is useful and well written.

If you built your site so it is easily crawled and indexed by the search engines, and you have relevant and unique content which is valuable or useful to your visitors, then your new site should not have any problems.

People who use these two legitimate methods aren’t surprised to see Google crawl and index their new website within 24 hours. Only a few days later, their sites are already getting traffic from the search engines.

Once you realize that these legitimate practices for getting crawled and indexed by Google are available and that they can give you immediate results, you don’t have to fall for the shady and questionable tactics that some Internet marketing “experts” are promoting to get you to buy their software.

SEO Traffic Spider | Choosing a SEO Friendly Domain Name

Only a few years back, you could be a successful entrepreneur without the need of a website. And the reason for this was very simple, before the nineties there was no Internet! With the introduction of the Internet, things changed drastically. And nowadays, it is impossible to even think of a globally successful enterprise that does not have an online presence. But what is more important is the fact, that just the presence of a visually appealing, information rich and well crafted website is not enough to get your company noticed on the internet. It has to be correctly marketed online through certain procedures so that it is prominently indexed by search engines. This is the primary reason why SEO or Search Engine Optimization has become such an important key to Internet business success.

We all know the importance of search engine rankings these days. Therefore, choosing a SEO friendly domain name means that you have started on the right note in the virtual world. One of the crucial roles in search engine rankings is played by domain names related to keywords that focus on your business and website. It definitely goes a long way in attracting target audience, getting increased conversions and generating business.

The process of choosing the right domain name needs careful considerations and deliberations, when you are thinking of starting a new website. And this is especially important if search engine optimization is going to be the main tool for directing traffic to your website. A SEO friendly domain name is one of the key factors that contribute to the success of the website. Therefore, you have to keep in mind the objective of your website and accordingly choose targeted keywords that you are planning to use to get top search engine rankings for your site. Inserting the main keywords of your business into the URL is a good idea. This is because not only is your website theme kept same throughout but Google, too, looks favorably on it.

Now, let us see what the different factors are that can be adopted to make a SEO friendly domain name.

Keywords in the Domain Name
Keywords play the role of a catalyst in a domain name. Though the keywords themselves do not constitute the entire process of SEO but they definitely contribute in making the entire procedure happen at a much faster rate.

Stick with the “.com”
The top level domain or TLD remains the most popular extension for a domain name. A .com domain definitely allows credibility boost. It is the most widely accepted extension. Of course, we can’t neglect that there are a lot of successful websites that end with a “.net”, “.uk”, or a “.biz”, but at the same time a .com extension by far is the most recalled one. If your business happens to be a new one, do you really want your customers to forget all about you just because they recalled to type in a “.com” instead of your “.edu”, and as a result couldn’t go back to your site! However, there are certain exceptions to this rule, especially if your business is geographically constrained and targets only local customers, in that case a “.au” will work as well.

Shorter and Catchier

It is best to have a domain name that is short and catchy. It is easier for visitors to recall and remember these. And you definitely don’t want a website that loses out on traffic because the domain name is too long, tricky or complicated to remember. Short names can also be typed more easily. Ensure that your domain name is easy to remember and easy to type.

No Hyphens or Numbers
Use of hyphenated or numbered domain names should be avoided. This is because it creates complications. Most often than not such domain names are forgotten easily, because it can’t be recalled where exactly the hyphen or the number has to be placed. You may end up losing your customers to other similar named websites, who do not use a hyphen or a number. And more often than not, hyphenated domain names sound like cheap substitutes of the real thing.

Type-In Traffic
This is when someone simply arrives at a particular website by just typing what they are searching for in their URL bar, and add a “.com” at the end. And a lot of people actually do that! Therefore, if you can choose a domain name that has an exact match keyword then you have better chances of receiving traffic. Also these kinds of domain names have better SEO benefits going for them.

Choosing a domain name that is SEO friendly can work wonders for your business by attracting lots of visitors to your website. With a heavy inflow of traffic, there are better chances of increases in conversion. All this definitely contributes in making your business a success.
