Of course, the Google document does not tell you how your website can be listed on Google’s first result page. It is more a checklist of things that you shouldn’t do if you want Google to index your web pages.
If you avoid the following things, it will be easier for Google to index your web pages:
1. Things that you should not do in your web page titles
Do not use web page titles that have no relation to the content on the page.
Do not use general web page titles such as “Untitled” or “New Page”.
Do not use the same title for more than one web page.
Do not use very long titles that do not help your users.
Do not stuff unnecessary keywords in your title tag.
2. Things that you should not do in your meta tags
Do not use meta description tags that have no relation to the web page content.
Do not use general descriptions such as “My web page” or “About kittens”.
Do not use only keywords in the description.
Do not copy the entire content of the web page in the meta description tag.
Do not use the same description tag on more than one web page.
3. Things that you should not do with your URLs
Do not use lengthy URLs with unnecessary parameters and session IDs.
Do not overuse keywords in your URL (kittens-cute-kittens-all-about-kittens.htm).
Do not use too many sub directories (../here/there/down/2/buried/deep/down/content.htm).
Do not use directory names that have no relation to the web page content.
4. Things that you should not do with your website navigation
Do not show the same content with different domains or sub-domains.
Do not mix www. and non-www. versions of your URLs in your internal links.
Do not use capitalization in your URLs.
Do not link every page of your website to every other page of your website.
Do not over-segment your web page content. Users should be able to access any content with a few clicks.
Do not base your entire navigation on drop-down menus or images.
5. Things that you should not do with broken links
Do not use broken links on your web page.
Do not block search engines from indexing your 404 not found pages.
Do not use non-descriptive 404 not found pages. Better use 404 web pages that help your website visitors to find the correct page on your website.
Do not use a 404 not found web page design that is not consistent with the rest of your website.
6. Things that you should not do with your web page content
Do not use text with many spelling and grammar errors on your pages.
Do not embed text in images because search engines cannot read it.
Do not write text about varying topics on a single page without paragraphs, sub-headings or layout separation.
Do not copy content from other web pages that has no extra value to your website visitors.

I have divided the search Engine optimization planning into 5 major steps.
1. Decide which search engine you want to focus on. I would suggest start with Google, Yahoo, MSN respectively and Lean as much as you can about these search engines. For example, learn what is important to Google and use it your advantage. These information are usually published at their sites and itâs available to the public. In addition, there are thousands of methods that have been patented by USPTS and itâs available to you for FREE which you can study and learn from it.
2. This is an important part of your plan. You have to be realistic. Select your target keywords as narrow as possible. Why? Because if you choose very wide keywords you are diminishing your chance of being successful in your project. Remember, you are not the only one that is trying to optimize his or her site and those who started before you are ahead of the game. So be patient and start from the button and get to the top.
3. Identify you competitors and find out about their strategies. By doing a simple search on Google you can find your competitors and discover their strategies and secrets. Using methods like number of incoming links to the website, websiteâs contents, number of pages andâ¦est. learn as much as you can about them.
4. Once you have identified all the search-terms itâs time to start the optimization process from your home page and other important pages on your site. In this step prepare the Meta tags, keywords, heading, contents, link tags⦠Remember, search engine optimization is divided into two major parts; inside optimization and outside optimization. Please note; do not neglect to put relative Meta tags and content for your pages. Although, search engines such as Google, and Yahoo do not put a high value on Meta tags anymore, however not-having Meta tags can reduce your ranking up to 1%. Donât say 1% doesnât matter, when you are competing with more than one million pages.
5. Once you have figure-out your Meta tags, Keyword, and contents, itâs time to start the real and more challenging step âoutside optimizationâ. The best and most effective method which so fare has been proven the top strategy for search engine optimization is linking strategy. But be careful of who you are getting link from and to whom you are linking from your website. I suggest link to those sites that offer something valuable to your visitors and exchange link with websites that are in the same market as you are. Link exchanging is beneficial but it can also be harmful. Search engines such as Google puts value on all incoming links to each web page and recognizes them as a vote from one site to another site. Linking strategy is a very complicated and critical subject and I would suggest that you do some research on your own before starting this process and find the best strategy for you site. Bare in mind that the steps outlined below are only going to be a summarization of the actual process involved.

Google allows you to add 3 Google Adsense blocks only to one page, no more than that, so I recommend one at the Top, one in the Right or Left sidebar depending on the template you choose and one at the Bottom of your blog.
By doing this your almost forcing your reader to click on a link within the Google Adsense block, which is of course, is exactly what you want and where your going to make the money.
The other great thing about Google Adsense is the ads are targeted to the content that you post, giving the reader even more reason to click through.

This will bring to to their directory where you’ll find many products to choose from that will target any niche your blog is about.
(Quick Tip: The first 10 listed under each category are the TOP converting programs, meaning… their the ones making the most money.)
If you don’t have a ClickBank.com nickname you’ll have to sign up for one. It’ll only take you a few minutes.
From there, once you’ve chosen a program to join your going to want to collect all the affiliate materials available, like Articles, Banners, Text Links, etc., because your going to place these on your NEW niche blog site with your affiliate link linked to them so when your reader clicks on them and decides to buy the related information, you get the commission.

Taking advantage of the fact that Yahoo counts synonyms, plural forms and variants in assessing keyword density, your site could justify both Yahoo’s and Google’s keyword requirement.

Content is very important to attain a good ranking with the Yahoo search engine. This refers to both quantity and quality of your site’s contents. Be mindful of relevance of your site’s contents to a given keyword and at the same time make sure that your site is full of it. Aside from content, format should not be taken for granted if you want to have Yahoo on your side. Unlike Google’s web spiders, Yahoo’s bot doesn’t dig deeper into your sites pages to index them. It is therefore very necessary for you to create a very good site map to guide this very lazy animal!
And lastly, even though Yahoo is very much into your site’s content when it comes to ranking in the SERPs, don’t forget that inbound links are still very important. Aside from making sure that your site does well with Google when it comes to links, Yahoo will also need the help it gets from inbound links to index your pages.

* The number and type of links linking to the website that’s linking to you.
* The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to you
* The total number of links on the website that is linking to you
* Whether or not the websites linking to you are deemed by Google as an authority website.
* Plus some other things that we’ll get to later
In order to optimize our original website for the keyword “structured settlements”, we need to analyze the linking strategy of the top 10 ranked websites for our keyword.
Copy The Top Ranked Websites To Get A #1 Position
The goal here will be to copy exactly what they’re doing, and then do things slightly better. We want to give Google exactly what they want, by making our linking strategy as close to the top ranked websites as possible, but as I said, slightly better to edge them out.
First, we need to open up a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel. You should create the following columns
* Linking Website
* Anchor Text used
* Page Rank
* Link Popularity
* Page Title
* Number of Outbound Links
Next, we need to visit Google and enter the keyword “structured settlements”. We’ll then visit the top 10 websites for this keyword and collect the information above. You should create 1 spreadsheet for each of the top 10 websites.
Linking Website is the specific website linking to structuredsettlements.org. In order to find all of the websites that link to structuredsettlements.org you can do a couple of things. The most common way is to go to Google and enter this search criteria: link:www.structuredsettlements.org. Once you do this Google will return a large list of websites that link to structuredsettlements.org.
Over the past several months, Google has cut down on the number of backlinks that it will show you, so you may be better off going to Yahoo and entering link:http://www.structuredsettlements.org to get a larger list of websites that link to them. Note that for Yahoo you must include “http://”.

Anchor Text is the actual text used within the link linking to the specified website. For example, the anchor text in the following link would be “structured settlements”.

Page Rank is the actual Google Page Rank of the webpage linking to structuredsettlements.org. In order to see the Google Page Rank, you’ll need to download and install the Google Toolbar for free from: http://toolbar.google.org
Link Popularity is just the number of links that are pointing to each of the webpages pointing to structuredsettlements.org. You can find their Google link popularity by entering this search command into Google: link:www.thewebsite.org then counting the total number of results that are shown OR you could go to a website like www.linkpopularity.org to find each link partners link popularity much quicker.
Page Title is the title of the page that is linking to structuredsettlements.org. Does it contain the keyword “structured settlements”, “structured settlements for cash” or “settlements”? If so, you should note which links pages those are. You’ll want to approach those websites and try to get them to link to your website.
Getting links from webpages that contain your main keyword in the page title is extremely powerful and is something many people often overlook.
Number of Outbound Links is the number of links located on the webpage linking to structuredsettlements.org. The less links located on the page, the more a link from them would increase your ranking.
Once we’ve collected all of the information, we now can see structuredsettlements.org’s linking strategy.
We’ll need to calculate the percentage of websites that contain the keywords “structured settlements for cash”, “structured settlements”, or “settlements” in the page title.

We’ll then need to mirror these numbers, as close as we can, for our linking strategy. This may take awhile to do, but once you’ve done this…

Once the blueprint for our linking strategy is complete, we need to contact each of these websites individually and ask them if they will add our link to their website in exchange for us adding their link to ours.
Tip: The more personalized you can make the email, the better. It is always best to include a blurb stating that you liked “X” about their website and was very impressed etc…
Now, if all of that seemed like it would take many days to do, you’re right… it would. It works, but it does take A LOT of time. There is a specific software program out there that can do ALL of this for you in a matter of minutes. It’s what I use on a daily basis and it works very well.

If you’re fed up with making peanuts from Adsense, then here’s a few Adsense tips to get your income up and running.
Content
Do you have plenty of good content on your site – and by that I mean keyword-rich content? To make good money with Adsense you should be aiming for at least 50-100 pages on your site – all of them with at least 500 words of content.
Keywords
If you’re not sure what a keyword is, visit Overture or Wordtracker and do some simple research there as to what keywords people are typing into the search engines. Each page should be optimized for at least one keyword, but the idea of sprinkling a few minor keywords through your pages will attract you instant traffic whilst you wait to rank for the more competitive keywords. Many people don’t even think of the one obvious place to get advice, which is from Google themselves! They have plenty of free resources to help you make the most of Adsense, including the “heatmap” which will help you to place your ads in the most profitable position.
You can also just type in “Free Adsense Keywords” to the search engines and you’ll find plenty of websites offering you free keywords as an incentive to sign up to their program. You won’t have to pay a cent and this’ll get you started on finding high paying keywords.
More Web Site Traffic
If you’ve already got good content that’s keyword rich, then work to increase your search engine traffic.
First, ensure that you are listed in the major search engines. If you’re listed but simply not getting any traffic, there’s some easy ways to get more search engine traffic in just days:-
Build links to your site – personally I use Link Metro to get those first links up and running and this means that the search engines naturally find and index your site
Write and submit articles to the article directories. Within 24 hours of submitting an article you can have a flood of targeted search engine traffic arriving at your site
Continue to add content – either through more pages, articles or by writing a blog. If you update your blog regularly and then ping it using Pingomatic, you’ll find you’ll be getting plenty of free traffic. Add to this by submitting your blog to the blog directories and you’ll increase your blog site traffic even further. So, don’t forget to put the Adsense code on your blog pages too! Traffic Exchanges – using a traffic exchange such as the popular Traffic Swarm is an easy way of gaining more web site traffic
Ban Proof Your Site
Make sure that neither you nor any of your friends, relatives and work colleagues accidentally or deliberately click on your site. It’s worth telling them that by clicking on your site they’re not helping you but may get you banned from Google!
Adsense Tracking
If you’re serious about Adsense, then tracking the keywords which are making you the most money and developing additional content around those keywords is a must. The addition of some simple code to your site can be a real eyeopener as to just where and how you are making money.
If you’re not ready for this just yet, consider using the channels that Google offer to monitor how each page is doing.
Click Through Rate
Well, as you’ll probably know, due to Google’s terms of service, no-one is allowed to discuss their actual click through rates (CTR’s). However, by simply using the Google heatmap you can improve a dire CTR (by that, I mean anything less than 3%).
If your CTR is already doing OK but you’d love to boost it further, then investing in resources provided by the Adsense expert will be an investment you can literally recoup in days or hours.

Overcompensating for a particular search engine would tip the scale and hurt your rankings in another search engine. A precarious situation faced by webmasters trying to optimize their websites.
As a website owner you put in a lot of hard work designing an attractive website and writing compelling content for the visitors. Adsense Tips: 10 Ways to Improve Click Through Rates
So you’ve started a new website. Put up some ads and now your just waiting for everyone who visits your site to click your ads like crazy and make you a lot of money. Unfortunately it’s not that simple. Most people ignore ads entirely, but there are things you can do to increase click through rates. These tips are not only great for those who are new to the world of PPC ads but also people with established sites just looking to make more money.
Before you start, Make Sure Your using Google Adsense
These tips will work for all pay per click ad providers. But, Google Adsense is the best and will make you the most money. Google ads are much more relevant than most PPC ad providers. This means that people will see ads for what they are actively pursuing at your site and will be much more likely to click them. Also people generally trust Google not to send them to irrelevant pages. If you do not have Google Adsense, get it. If you have previously applied for Adsense and have been denied you should really consider changing what they found objectionable and re-applying, its worth it. You can sign up for Adsense from my site at the bottom of this article.
1.) Text Ads Only!
Way back when the internet first started image ads were an effective marketing technique. Since then almost everyone has figured out that they usually aren’t worth clicking, and thus click through rates on image ads have dropped drastically. For some reason people prefer text ads. When setting up your Adsense codes make sure to select “Text ads Only”.
2.) Diversify Your Content
One of the best ways to improve your click through rates is to diversify your content. Adsense works best on sites with many different pages covering many different keywords. So that when a visitor comes to your site there is a whole spectrum of ads that may catch their interest.
3.) Remove Visual Borders
You should make your ad background color, and border color the same as the background color for your content. There should be no lines, borders, or change of color between the background of your ads and the background of your content. That just screams “THESE ARE ADS, DON’T BOTHER LOOKING HERE!” Sure, when your visitors read them they will know they are ads, but at least they will be reading them and more likely to find one of interest.
Now that we’ve covered type and setup of your ads lets move on to placement. Remember with Adsense you only get 3 ad units per page, so use them wisely.
4.) Frame Your Content
What this means is that you should use your ads as a border for your content. Use a leaderboard for the top and a wide skyscraper for the side. That way anytime a visitor goes to read your content they will have to look over your ads. When it comes to ads bigger is better, always pick the wide skyscraper and the longest leader board over more compact units. You should only use two ad units to frame your content because with Adsense you are only allowed three ad units on each page and your third ad unit can be better spent.
5.) Left Side Ads, Right Side Site-Map
A lot of times people will have their site-map on the left, their ads on the right, and their content in the middle. This is a bad idea when trying to improve click through rates because the left side is the first thing visitors see when they visit your site. If you make your left table your ads you will likely get more clicks because thats what people will see first, and your site will still be equally navigable.
6.) Focal Point Placement
Ad placement is critical. Aside from the obvious choices of the skyscraper on the left and the leaderboard on the top. You should choose your third ad unit wisely. Each site is different, and has different focal points. Only you know where your focal point is, that’s where you place your ads.
For example: right next to a login box.
7.) Disguise Your Ads
Now this doesn’t mean that you should try to remove or hide the “Ads by Google” logo. What this means is that you should place your ad unit within your content. The square ads work best for this. Put the ads directly above your content and try to format your content to resemble the ads as closely as possible. You should not try to substitute ads for content, because a it’s a really dumb thing to do. You need a decent amount of content and ads are no substitute. Your visitors aren’t stupid and if they realize that you are trying to substitute ads for content they will leave and not come back.
8.) Link Unit at the Top of Your Site-Map
For some sites its a good idea to place a link unit at the top of your site-map. Like all ad units you want the to resemble your content as much as possible. Remember, don’t format your ads to resemble your site, format your site to resemble your ads.
9.) Test Different Setups
If you’re smart you’re using Adsense custom channels to track the performance of your ad units. If you see that an ad unit isn’t getting a lot of clicks, its time to move it. Shuffle your ads around until you find the combination that yields the highest click through rates.

Dominate Google Rankings Quick and Easy!
Does dominating Google rankings quick and easy sound too good to be true? It really isn’t. Following are a bunch of surefire SEO tips that have kept hundreds of my client’s sites on top of Google for years, with new ones every month.
There’s a lot to cover and I hate long articles that drone on so I’ll keep the info short and sweet. Let’s start with the domain name.
Domain Names
Age: Make sure your domain name is at least six months old. If it’s more than a year old, that’s even better. Google often (but not always) likes domains to be at least six months old before indexing the site. How do they know? They use a “whois” database like the one at:
http://www.AllWhoIs.com.
Go there and enter your domain if you want to see what Google (and anyone else in the world) can instantly know about your site.
TLD Type: TLD stands for Top Level Domain, which is to say the letters after the dot. The best ones to have are “.com, .net. .org and .edu.” These get the most play in Google’s top 3 rankings for just about every keyword you can imagine, with “.com” and “.edu” being the best.
Embedded Keywords: If you have your main keyword (and ONLY your main keyword) as a dotcom domain name with even just halfway decent page text and some good inbound links you can usually nail number one on Google for that keyword. I’ve done it dozens of times. It’s a no brainer.
Dashes: Having a dash in your domain name might be bad for branding but it can open whole new doors of opportunity for your search engine optimization efforts. You see Google treats a dash as a null value (almost like a space) and can take them or leave them with equal indifference. So if your main keyword phrase is a few words long, you can place a dash between each word. If that’s taken, just try one dash separating the first and second words but leave the second and third word grouped together. You get the idea. Just keep trying combinations until you have one that works and scoop up the domain. Even if you sit on it for six months, you’ll have it when you want it.
Now on to the next big item; keywords. The best keyword embedded domain name in the world will mean little if nobody is searching for that keyword. That said; let’s find the best keywords possible for your site. Here’s how…
Keywords:
Keywords in Demand: Let’s snoop into Google’s keyword database and find some winners. Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and enter any keyword or phrase you think your target audience is looking for. Now click on the top header link to sort by desired search volume to see which words get the most searches.
Go Long: And don’t be afraid to use longer keywords as long as they get plenty of searches. Not only will this narrow the tasks of your workload for actual optimization but it will open all kinds of new options for finding great (dash laden) domain names and even help cut back on your competition.
Narrow Your Field: Now take the top ten or so relevant keywords and phrases and list them in order of “Approximate Monthly Searches Performed.” You might want to paste the keyword into one column of a spreadsheet and the number of searches into the next column. This next part takes a bit of math so we might as well let Excel do it.
Competition:
Competition; Less is Better: “Less is better.” Well that’s the understatement of the year. But how do you know how much competition you will be up against? It’s easy. Simple division does the trick nicely. Here’s how…
Google It: Go to Google and paste in your first keyword phrase. Look in the upper right area of the page and see how many pages you will be competing against if you try to optimize for that keyword (Results 1 – 10 of about 123,000,000 for “keyword”.) Now record that number in the cell to the right of “searches performed.” You can go ahead and do the same for each keyword. When you have all the info you need have Excel divide the number of “competing pages” by the number of “searches performed.” The lower the resulting ratio; the better your chances. Your best bet is to take the lowest ratio number with the highest number of “searches performed.” This is your optimal target.
Even More: But we’re not done yet! Now find the next best two runnerup keywords and write them down in order of importance. We’ll need them soon.
Content:
The King Lives!: You’re probably sick of hearing it but content really is king. Developing search engine friendly, well optimized content (for REAL people) is key to your success. Google can read a Web page just like a person thanks to its natural text algorithm. So keyword spamming and robotic writing do not work with Google. But here’s what DOES work…
Keep it Real: Call a close friend and tell him or her exactly what you want to tell your web visitors. Then as quick as you can write it down, as close to “word for word” as you can remember. Just let the words flow. You can fix spelling and grammar later.
Fitting In: Now, with your list of three keywords, go back through your text and fit your most important keyword as close to the beginning of the first sentence as possible. Now go ahead and place your number two keyword someplace else toward the beginning of your first paragraph. Your third keyword should go into the beginning of the second paragraph if possible.
Now use only one of your keywords for each of the next three paragraphs. Try to make them fit naturally toward the beginning sentence or two of each paragraph.
Throw in a Curve: Now use a reverse order for the very last paragraph. Put your least important keyword (number 3 pick) at the beginning of the paragraph and your best keyword at the end. This shows consistency (at least as far as Google is concerned.)
Last but not least, do not repeat any keyword more than three or four times on a page. I stick with a 3 x 3 method and it works great (3 keywords each mentioned 3 times over the course of about 9 paragraphs.)
Getting Links and Monitoring Your Site:
Inbound Links: Having high quality inbound links can account for more than 75% of your search engine ranking success. Getting these links is the crucial step that will get you over the top. At the same time you need to monitor your progress and your site’s status (how search engine REALLY see it). This will tell you not just where you are – but where you are likely to be. In the old days, we had to do all of the link work and monitoring by hand. And believe me, it took a long time (I averaged about 16 hours per week; per site!) My advice is to find a good SEO tool and let it do the tough and repetitive work for you. If you get hold of the right product, it’s the best money you’ll ever spend.
I started out with WebPosition Pro and used it for a couple years but switched to another tool that has automated linking, which I find to be the most time-consuming and now most important aspect of SEO on Google. This was probably a good call since Web Position was recently banned by Google for abuse.
