Tales From the Search Engine Optimization Swindle
I’ve never been to India.
That is a damaging admission. I’m willing to bet that you’ve never been their either. However, I do find them to be quite fascinating. But that is not what I’m talking about.
A lot of your search engine optimization experts, (SEO’s) are farming your web site optimization jobs out to India. They do this because of six very important reasons. First of all it is cheap. Second of all it is fast. Thirdly is because Indian labor is somewhat of a commodity in the United States. Forth, the timing on getting a job done is fairly quick. Fifth, getting employees from India is very easy to do and there is a never ending supply of willing workers. Six, the search engine company can charge you as much as 2.500% for every job they sell.
This seems pretty alarming but let’s look at the quality.
The traditional SEO craze has been around now for a few years. It is nothing new. Getting to the top of the search engines is something that is always been on the forefront thought of every CEO. Staying on the top of Google and other top search engines is BIG business. But there are many new contributing factors to staying on top that traditional SEO’s, (search engine optimization experts) tend to miss. Plus there is an added item of interest to add to the table.
Non – traditional SEO experts can do this a lot quicker than traditional SEO’s. The time factor is a critical point in this example. Consider for a moment how long it takes to get some visibility on the search engines. In a typical setting you could be waiting for as long as 7 months. In fact a lot of your top SEO companies today are still spewing out these outdated beliefs.
I can honestly tell you that I have created brand awareness in as little as 42 minutes. In fact, I have personally knocked off companies who held the top totem pole rankings on Google in under an hour. This may sound hard to believe but it is the absolute truth. I created these results by doing some very unique techniques that the traditional market has missed out on.
In short, I use my Internet resources. I strategize to the hilt and make use of all of my online real estate. This is something that all companies should do. Everything I do is compliant. I do not employ any underhanded tactics when I create a campaign. My goal is to make a company visible and there are many things that need to go in place in order for this to happen.
BREAKING AWAY FROM TRADITIONAL THINKING
The biggest problem I have seen lies within the “online internet marketing” mentality. There is this old world thinking that lies within the framework of this industry. There is a common belief that all you need to build a brand is one web site and one domain name. Then you pour all of your time, effort and money trying to get those few pages up in top Google rankings.
You can do this any number of ways including pay per click and sponsored links. In fact you can dump a ton of money into this and get some visibility. Now you have to pay for this each and every month and it can get pretty costly. Yet, a lot of companies boldly take this route because they have conditioned themselves to believe that this is how you do it.
I have seen companies go bankrupt, literally overnight, by taking this approach. This is not the way to build a brand online. For one thing it is way too costly. The other problem that I see with this is that you simply do not have enough reach to your intended audience. You are going to need to contact more people within your niche and go deeper than you have in the past with direct mail, cold calling and other ancient forms of communication.
I find that a lot of companies that fall into this mindset suffer from some rather disturbing commonalities. These individuals never even bother to look at their site. Worse, they let someone else manage it for them. The results are really bad. Not only are they invisible but the fail to get critical links to their audience. These companies really fail to deliver in the end. But that is not the worst of it….
You see a lot of these companies fail to have any links.
WHATS THE BIG DEAL WITH LINKS?
You need links to get more popularity. You also need links so you can reach REAL people. A lot of companies fail to recognize whether or not real people are looking at the site or if they are dealing with search engine bots. This is a common mistake that I see a lot.
So when someone is bragging about how many hits they have on their site keep in mind that this can be very misleading. A lot of hits can mean that you are being bombarded with nothing more than crawling bots that the search engines send to scope out your site.
When you have links to other sites where real people visit and make decisions you are tapped into something real. I do not need to remind you that real people can also lead you to real dollars. You need to have real people visiting your site and to do that takes work.
I often find that the web site owners who have 4 links are the same ones who give me the most trouble. As a certified SEO I get to crawl through your site and look at your code and your files. I can see how you are structured online and how many visitors you actually have. I know that when someone hands over their site to me and tells me that they are getting 2 million hits a day that I need to examine his situation a little more carefully. If they have ten links or under and no other presence on the web I tend not to believe them simply because the math doesn’t make any sense.
I tend not to work with liars. Remember that I can see everything.
The bottom line here is that you need more links. If you combine the right things in place you can get visibility very quickly and keep your positions. That is what is so great about working on the web. You can actually hold your spots. I call this online real estate. When I get a top spot I tend not to let it go. Every ranking you hold on Google and other search engines is paramount. You need those links to help promote your brand awareness.
There are a lot of subtle things that need to go into place when you construct an online campaign. So while throwing it all together and sending your pages out to directories may seem like a great idea. It may even seem like a better idea to get a guy from India to do it remember that you are losing out on the big picture.
There is another component that needs to go into this whole SEO web site optimization thing. You are going to need to have a strategy to reach your intended live audience.
If you plan this out right you can get there in a matter of hours.
