Is Twitter Good for Your Business?
I am pretty sure you have heard of Twitter. Unless maybe you have been living under a rock. If you have been online at all for just the past year, it is the new phenom.
Twitter has become one of the best social networking tools to be made available right now. And it it is so easy to use. To sign up for an account is free and you can then get started.
Setting up your site is fairly easy. Just fill in your profile and you will be all set up.
Now some of you might feel the need to get your picture up on your site, And some of you more creative types might just go with an avatar. Whichever you choose it does not matter as it can be changed at anytime. You just want to use something that represents you to tell everyone, this is me!
You can then start following people you find interesting and who might be doing some of the same things or have the same interest that you do. These are some of the people you may want to follow. Kind of like staying in touch with people and asking what they doing.
And if they do find you interesting they may follow you too. There are some people who have followers numbering in the tens of thousands. May not happen to you to start but it could. Great for social networking. Also, what a great list building tool.
Now that you are set all you have to do is start twittering, I mean posting, away. People within the community are called tweeple. What makes it really nice is you can only type in 140 characters at a time. So, it makes you really think about what you want to say in as few words as possible. No long winded comments here.
What a great way to stay in touch with your friends, acquaintances and some people you may not even know. You can actually be anonymous with your post and really let your hair down and if you are bald like me that would be a trick.
Now how do you use it for your business. Well, after you have been twittering for a while, every now and then you might mention something about your website. Maybe stick in a URL. If you are an affiliate of a program you might want to mention it from time to time.
Now did you hear me, every now and then. It does not mean that everytime you make a post you stick in your URL or advertise. That would be the quickest way for people to unfollow you and then you would be making useless twitters. You would lose a lot of followers.
You must be subtle when trying to get people to visit your site. If you went to a party you would not be up in peoples faces advertising your business. You might want to get involved in the conversation and introduce yourself, find out what other people are doing, maybe even make suggestions that might help them.
Then at some point maybe if they found you interesting they might ask what you do and then you can tell them a little about yourself and what you do. Not to much at first, just a bit to let them know who you are.
Well, Twitter can be just like that. Let people get to know you and over time you can introduce more and more things to them. People will appreciate you more and they might recommend you to their friends.
Is Twitter for your business? You may not think so now but I think you will find that this is still an untapped goldmine with unlimited potential for businesses, online and offline. Just remember to follow the rules and be respectful of others. Afterall, this is a social site.
