it is public knowledge what things people are searching for and how many, not illegal, just depends on whether the server wants to bother keeping a list

Its not easy to get the details. The people from google can help you.. but I doubt.

I doubt it. That’s important proprietary information that they use to make more money with targeted ads. If you work there and had a use for it, they might let you see them.
Even the government with a subpoena couldn’t get the search terms. The courts ruled against them because Google wanted to protect privacy.
Each search does post interesting searches once in a while, such as the Yahoo Buzz index. I’m sure others have something similar, but I doubt any of it is going to be real time or even that representative. For example, Yahoo doesn’t have any sex things on its Buzz index and I’m sure people search for that all the time.
