Online Business Success – How To Strategically Increase Your Google Page Rank
Copyright (c) 2010 Rebecca Kimes
Every person who owns a website or blog dreams of receiving a free flood of targeted traffic from the Google search engine.
While comprehensive SEO, search engine optimization, might be too complicated for the average online entrepreneur there are many things you can easily do to proactively enhance your website for the search engines.
Your first step will be to know your current Google page rank. Just type in google page rank into your google search bar, pull up the website and follow the directions.
Your website or blog will receive a score ranging from 0-10. The higher your score, the more points or votes Google as given your website. In essence, a higher score makes is easier for you to show up in organic searches for your key words.
There are several factors Google considers when giving you a page ranking. Some of them are: domain age, inbound links, internal links, and what kind of sites you are linked to.
Google has other criteria, but links are the easiest factors for you to use to strategically raise your Google ranking.
If your Google page rank is a 0 that probably means that you have a relatively new website. Remember, Google uses your domain age as one of its factors. So a brand new site will naturally rank lower than a site that is 2-5 years of age or older.
While you can’t do anything about the domain age of your site you can create as many links to and within your site as you have time and energy for.
Here are some simple yet effective ways to create links within and without your site…
1. Link relevant posts in your blog. At the end of each blog post put a link of 2-5 other relevant posts that you have written. Also make sure all your of the main pages on your site link together link your home page having a clickable link to your resources page.
2. Write articles and put them in article directories like Ezine articles, Articles Base and Go Articles. Every article you write has a resource box that you can put a mini-commercial in with a link back to your site.
3. Write testimonials for your favorite mentor, coach, etc. They will love it and most likely put the testimonial on their site, with a link back to your site of course. Added strategy…look for people who have higher ranking sites to link to.
Linking to a site with a Google ranking of 3 “counts” more than linking to a site with a ranking of 1. In other words, having 2 links to sites with a Google page rank of 5 will count more that linking to 20 sites with a Google page rank of 0 or 1.
4. Search around the internet for highly ranking Blogs that are relevant to your site. Read the posts and then write something in the comment section. Almost all blogs have a place for you to put a link back to your website. You’ll also get the attention of the Blog owner opening up the door for connections and relationship building.
5. Create videos and upload them to video sharing sites like Youtube an MetaCafe, Facebook, Twitter, other social sites like Ning and relevant forums. Videos are quickly becoming the most effective marketing tool on the web. It’s time to leverage your content and get it out there is the most effective way.
This is just a small sampling of strategic an fun ways to create back links that will improve your Google page ranking. You are only limited by your creativity and imagination. Go for it!

7 Google Killers in Review
While Google is the leading search engine, and will most likely continue to be that for a long time, there is several thousand lesser search engines that work hard to gain a part of the search marketplace for themselves.
The marketplace for search is dominated by a few big behemoths. According to comScore the market in October 2009 was dominated by Google (65.4%), Yahoo (18.0%), Microsoft (9.9%), Ask (3.9%) and AOL (2.9%), with smaller shares held on to by MapQuest, eBay, craigslist, Fox, MySpace, Facebook and Amazon.
With each 1% of the search market having a value of $3 Billion at yearly revenues of $332 million there is no need to conquer more than 0.1% percent of the market to make serious money. That’s why we’ll continue to see a growing number of start up search engines.
This is the top 7 search engines that the 2010 news stories are likely to gossip around. New or old, they all have in common that they deliver high quality search results and they have been innovating during 2009.
Cuil
Cuil is one of the few new search engines that is competing head to head with Google on index size and by claiming to be the worlds biggest search engine, managers and ex Googlers Anna Patterson and Russell Power has a lot to deliver.
Overloaded servers generating low quality search results hampered the 2008 launch giving Cuil a fair amount of negative media attention but of you try a search today you’ll find the search results are really good and there is an explore by category function that is among the best I’ve seen.
DuckDuckGo
Sporting a Zero-click information box with facts about your search term, categories to refine your search and by designating the official site for the search term this search engine combines results from Yahoo BOSS, Wikipedia and it’s own crawler DuckDuckBot to give you cute and pretty useful search results.
Founded by Gabriel Weinberg, who started and then sold The Names Database, DuckDuckGo is a private venture that has grown steadily since it’s launch in September 2008. I think this search engine has a good niche carved out for itself, watch out for this search engine in 2010
Spezify
This search engine is totally awesome. It presents the search results as newspaper clippings pasted all over the screen with a mix of photos and quotes from web pages. By looking through some of the clippings you get a good overview of the matter you are researching and can make an informed decision on which search results to visit and read more about.
Spezify is very useful tool for brainstorming. You’ll get a log of new ideas for your article or blog post just by typing your keyword into the search box and watching the resulting mix of clippings and photos.
Secret Search Engine Labs
This search engine ranks sites differently than the big mainstream search engines. There is a lot of new and smaller websites that has a hard time showing up in the Google search results as the giant has a notorious preference for old, established authority sites. Secret Search Engine Labs ranks sites based on page contents and links using their trademark CashRank algorithm to filter out questionable content.
A search engine that puts more emphasis on page content than on site age and authority and that provides useful information to website owners on how the search results are calculated, Secret Search Engine Labs was started in 2007 by Finnish software engineer and entrepreneur Simon Byholm with the aim to grow slowly into the best search engine on the Internet.
Bing
Bing is a re-branding of Microsoft’s Live Search that was at one time MSN Search. Now Microsoft has managed to get hold of almost 10% of the marketplace for search by running a bold marketing campaign. As part of the re-launch there has been a decent amount of new functionality, like related topics using the technology from the search engine Powerset that they acquired in 2008.
Watch Bing closely during 2010 as Microsoft has finally taken some real action to increase their market share and it’s likely that we’ll see more changes over time.
Blekko
This is a fresh start-up that is keeps it’s mouth shut almost as well as Google itself when you ask for the what and the when of their new search engine. The strong management team with former employees from Topix, Google, AOL and Netscape Search makes me believe they have something fascinating going on.
We are still waiting eagerly for Blekkos official launch. It was promised by the end of 2009 though so you can expect it to make some serious headlines in 2010. Let’s hope it’s exiting news.
Monitter
This is a real time Twitter monitor with reply and re-tweet options. You input three keywords and after some processing the latest Twitter posts that contains your keywords start to roll down the screen in three separate columns. When you have a need to monitor you niche or area of expertise or if you just want to keep an eye on the conversation this is a great tool.
What About The Rest?
Google was left out of the list as you already know that they are innovating and they will most likely make it into the news in 2010. Being the only well known search engine to create the search results from information in databases, Wolfram Alpha will be an interesting project to watch in the years to come.
In addition to my list of seven there is also a horde of new social and real time search engines launching and there’s no way to know if one of them will become a permanent player in the search market. You’ll find more information about these and thousands more at AltSearchengines.com
There is now signs that we could see radical changes in the search engine landscape following years of rule by Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. There’s so much new technology out there. New search engines making use of social networks, visual presentation, new semantic algorithms and real-time results to stand out from the crown are popping up everywhere. The result, even if we get no new top three, is that the ruling giants will have to keep innovating to keep up with the crowd and in the end we’ll get a better search experience.
Simon Byholm is the founder and CEO of Secret Search Engine Labs, an internet search engine with alternative search results and tools for webmasters and SEO professionals.
How Can I Increase My Google Page Rank?
I’d like to increase the page rank that Google assigns to my website. Are spamming the net with links to my page and flooding my page with keywords the only answer? I don’t want to do either of these. Can I just put keywords in the meta data of the HTML file?
Where Can I Get Pictures Of Inside Google’s Headquarters?
I heard they have a movie-screen sized ticker that scrolls all the Google searches in real-time in the lobby of their headquarters? I’d like to see pics to see if this is true and what inside Google headquarters look s like. Thanks to anyone who can suggest a link.

Understanding Google Page Rank Factors
Commercial users of the Internet are always on the lookout for information on what can improve their prospects on Google. Many of them could give an arm and a limb to find out the right information about Google page rank factors. These are the factors that make websites rank highly on Google. However, Google works much differently from other websites and for that reason it is important to understand how it works so that you might improve your page rank on it.
Google Page Rank Factors #1: In-coming Links
Your primary education should be on how the Google search engine operates. Google tries to provide its users with what it thinks is the richest content. One way that Google uses to estimate that is by checking out how particular websites perform on the Internet. In case you can get your website to garner an appreciable number of clicks, its prospects are automatically improved. When Google tracks those links, it understands that your website is quite popular. The general idea it will get is that your website has more clicks because it has good content which is bringing in the people. Google would love to showcase your link on its search pages. Your link thus gets better popularity because Google starts ranking it higher.
Win Google Page Rank Factors – Do Link Building
Another way to enter into Google’s good books is to spread your website link in as many places on the Internet that you can, but in a non-spammy way. Because the link is so heavily present on the Internet, your website begins to rank higher.
Google Page Rank Factors – Blogging Helps Attract Natural Linking
Online marketers try to publicize their links in all places that could be of value to them. One way to do that is to have a blog. If you write a blog, you can post your website link in the signature. This helps people to follow the link to your website. The traffic that you get is more valuable to you because it is targeted. The same happens with your articles on article directories.
Link building is an important part of the Google game, and is one of the most important Google page rank factors.
Google Page Rank Factors – Google Domination, Entire First Page
However, if what you are looking at is to really dominate the Google search pages, then you will have to use some very unique tricks. Google won’t ever tell you that its search page can be dominated, but people who have a penchant for conducting researches on the way in which Google works have come up with some great answers.
The Google Domination Book is one such solution; it has a description of some very interesting methods you could use to enhance your rank on the Google search pages.

Search Engines in 2010 – 7 You Need To Keep an Eye On
Lets face it, Google is the dominating search engine, and will most likely continue to be that in the foreseeable future, there is thousands of smaller search engines that are working hard to gain a piece of the search marketplace for themselves.
The English language market for search is dominated by a few big behemoths. According to comScore the market for search in October 2009 was dominated by Google (65.4%), Yahoo (18.0%), Microsoft (9.9%), Ask (3.9%) and AOL (2.9%), followed by MapQuest, eBay, craigslist, Fox, MySpace, Facebook and Amazon.
With the search market valued at $300 Billion that makes every single 1% worth $3 Billion when selling the company and you would do very well by conquering just a 0.1% slice of that cake. The number of start up search engines is only going to increase with more venture capital wanting a piece of the market.
This is the top 7 search engines that the 2010 blog headlines are likely to gossip around. New or old, they all have in common that they deliver good search results and they have been innovating in 2009.
Cuil
With two ex Googlers, Anna Patterson and Russell Power, in the management team and by claiming to be the worlds biggest search engine Cuil has a lot to deliver.
Overloaded servers generating low quality search results hampered the 2008 launch giving Cuil a fair amount of negative media attention but of you try a search today you’ll find the search results are really good and there is an explore by category function that is among the best I’ve seen.
DuckDuckGo
The search engine with the silly name and a cute interface uses a combination of Yahoo BOSS, Wikipedia and it’s own crawler DuckDuckBot to give you both hard information in a Zero-click information box, categories to further refine searches and the actual search results.
Founded by Gabriel Weinberg, who started and then sold The Names Database, DuckDuckGo is a private venture that has grown steadily since it launched in September 2008. Watch out for this search engine in 2010, it has a nice niche carved out for itself
Spezify
A totally cool search engine, Spezify. The search results are showcased as images and newspaper clippings pasted all over the computer screen, the clippings having one paragraph quotes from the result web site. By scanning some of the clippings you get a excellent overview of the matter you are researching and can make an informed decision on which search results to visit and read more about.
It’s also a great brainstorming tool. You’ll get a ton of new ideas for your article or blog post just by entering your keyword into the search box and watching the resulting mix of clippings and photos.
Secret Search Engine Labs
This search engine ranks sites differently than the big mainstream search engines. As Google gives priority to aged and big sites, many new, small and relevant sites are hard to find in their search results. The algorithm of Secret Search Engine Labs ranks sites according to on page factors and link anchor text and removes spam pages using the trademarked CashRank method.
A search engine that puts more weight on web page content than on site authority and that provides useful info to webmasters on how the search results are calculated, Secret Search Engine Labs was started in 2007 by Finnish software engineer and entrepreneur Simon Byholm with the aim to grow slowly into the best search engine on the Web.
Bing
First there was MSN Search, then Live Search and now with the latest re-branding we have Bing. With a forceful marketing campaign Microsoft has managed to grab almost 10% of the market for search. The media attention during the re-launch has fueled innovation adding new features like the daily changing background image, suggested topics and trends.
With Microsoft working fiercely to increase Bing’s market share you should watch them closely during 2010.
Blekko
This is a brand new start-up that is keeps it’s mouth shut almost as well as Old Google when you ask about the what and the when of their new search engine. The strong management team with ex-employees from Topix, Google, AOL and Netscape Search has me wondering if they have something fascinating going on.
We are still waiting eagerly for Blekkos public launch. It was promised for the end of 2009 though so you can assume that it will make some serious headlines in 2010. We can only hope it’s good and exciting news.
Monitter
Monitter is not a classic search engine but a real-time Twitter search where you can monitor several keywords and see the tweets containing those keywords in real time as they are tweeted. When you need to monitor you niche or area of expertise or if you just want to track the conversation this is a neat tool.
There Are More Search Engines, Right?
I think you know that Google is innovating and it’s pretty sure they will make some noise in 2010. Wolfram Alpha is fascinating as it is the only major search engine that makes the results from data.
There’s a multitude of social, real-time or just weird search engines starting up and there’s no telling if one of them develops into the next Twitter and makes a permanent mark in the search market. You’ll find more information about these and many more at AltSearchengines.com
There is finally signs that we could see big changes in the search engine landscape after years of rule by Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. There’s new technology sprouting like mushrooms in every nook of the Net. There’s semantic search, visual presentation, real time search and socially powered search engines created. If nothing else is achieved at least the old behemoths will have to adopt the new technology to stay competitive, giving us better search results in the process.
Google: 5 Things You Didn’t Know the Search Engine Could Do…
Google Conversion Tool
The nifty search engine has its own in built converter. Try typing into the Google search box â4ft 6in in metresâ or â23c in Fahrenheitâ and you will get an instant conversion. Move your calculator to the bottom drawer of your desk or throw your slide rule out of the window. If you donât know what a slide rule is then Google it â you will be amazed at how your ancestors worked in the old days.
Google Calculator
Similarly, your old friend Google can act as a calculator. Try typing in â43% of 92â and in the twinkle of an eye receive instant enlightenment. Where was this while I was doing my GCSEâS?
Google Currency Converter
You know whatâs coming donât you. Type â£123 in US$â and be amazed with the instant currency conversion.
Google News
Visit http://news.google.co.uk (you donât need the âwwwâ bit) to visit a bang up to date computer generated news site. The Google news site aggregates headlines from over 4,500 English language news sources on the planet. You can ask the site to group news stories together according to your particular interests. An archive section is navigable from the top of the site which lets you look back through history. I typed in âTitanicâ in the archives search box and was able to instantly download a PDF of the actual front page of the New York Times from April 12th 1912.
Google Mobile
Download Google Maps for mobile from free by visiting the Google UK website at www.google.co.uk/gmm. I downloaded the software straight onto the desktop of my PC and then hooked up my mobile to my PC with the bit of cable that my mobile phone manufacturer gave me in the box it came with. I think this would prove quicker and easier for most people than getting online with your mobile and downloading directly. Download times to mobiles still seem dreadfully slow to me.
Most mobile phones that are less than 3 years old will operate Google Maps. With Google Maps loaded onto your mobile you will never get lost when walking or driving in any UK city although software specifies that it should not be used when driving (who would think of such a thing?).
Many mobile phones come with GPS all ready installed. GPS stands for âglobal positioning systemâ and lets you know exactly where you are on the face of the earth through satellite technology. You can enter a start and end point for any road journey and be supplied with detailed directions. Another nifty feature is that you can specify a start and end point and find the best way to make this journey on public transport.
Going by foot in a strange city is now a breeze.
Itâs clear to me that this functionality is a direct competitor to satellite navigation. The only real difference I can see is that you donât receive verbal instructions. This doesnât bother me â I can get those at home.
Itâs possible to add your favourites to Google Maps such as home, irritating relatives in Berkshire or Big Daveâs Bar & Grill.
Hope these nifty features will help you in the office and on your travels.

Google Page Rank : What You Need to Know
Now that you’ve got your new website up and running, it’s time to start building your Google Page Rank, or “PR”. Page rank is the value that Google gives your site, measured by how many quality links are pointing back to your site, or how popular your site is. The more links you have pointing back to your site, namely quality links from sites with a higher PR, the higher your site will be ranked in Google’s search engine. The rank is on a scale of 0-10 – ten being the highest rank of course! It takes time to get a PR higher than zero when first starting out. This is partly because once you submit your URL to Google and other search engines, it may take weeks or even months before it is indexed. It may also be partly due to the fact that you just need to build good content for your site, and have your links on other people’s websites all over the web. Even if you have a PR of 1-5, you are doing well, even though it may not sound like it. The challenge is for webmasters to increase their PR as much and as quickly as possible, but how?
First of all, there are some tools you can use to check your PR, namely the Google Page Rank Toolbar, which can be downloaded for free from the Google site, and is installed onto your browser. This allows you to check your own site’s PR, as well as those of other sites you visit, which will give you a good clue as to which sites you should be linking to. Linking to sites with a higher PR will increase your site’s PR. It’s a good idea to do a Google search for keywords related to your site’s content, and choose sites to link to whose PR you know in advance. You can send an email to that webmaster asking to exchange links. Not all of them will accept, but the few that do could increase your PR very quickly just by linking to your site!
Next, it’s important to do some serious keyword research using a keyword search tool, one of the most popular being Overture’s keyword search tool. With this tool, or other similar tools, you would type in search terms, such as “make money online”. Since this is a very broad search term, it is going to be highly competitive and will generate a high number of results for number of times that term has been searched. When optimizing your site, you want to avoid these highly competitive terms and use keywords that generate fewer results, by coming up with a keyword that is searched less, but still popular.
There are a few tricks to getting ranked higher with regards to keywords, such as changing some of your source code keywords. For example, you can change the title tag of your site to match the optimized keywords you want to use. You can also look at the source code of other people’s sites by clicking View/Source in your browser while visiting their site to see how optimized their site is and which tags and images they use or don’t use. It is helpful to highlight, bold, or italicize your website keywords to get a higher rank, especially if your competition is not doing that. If you check what your competition is doing, and do what the higher ranked sites are doing, you may be able to outrank them!

competitive edge that can be used to your advantage. Keyword RSS

monitoring the effectiveness of a specific press promotion.
Although they sound daunting ego searches are simply good
business sense.
Build That Google Page Rank the Right Way
Welcome to the third part in our series on increasing your Google page rank. If you have been reading and following this educational and informational series closely, than you already know, the power of Google`s page rank.
Imagine yourself with a website selling widgets. You have a great product at the right price and you know that if you could get more visitors it would take off.
It goes without saying that a good advertising campaign will carry you a long way, but what you also want to do is have your website appear in search listings, and have them appear as close to the number one position as possible, especially on the most popular of search engines such as Google.
If you read our first article in this series, (available to read on our website, see “Are You Doing This To Increase Your Google Page Rank?”) then you already know what the Google page rank is all about, and know of one great way to increase that number.
That is done of course through link exchanging, which is the ability to have your site`s information and link placed on another website and in turn you do the same for that company on your site.
Then you learned, (see “Increase Google Page Rank With Established Websites” on our website), how not all link exchanges are created equal. Today we want to go over the part of the Google page rank algoritm which discourages website owners from placing multiple links to the same site.
If you think about the logic behind the portion of this part of Google`s algorithm, it makes sense. If all you needed to do was to have links from one site to another to increase your rank, everybody would be setting a bogus website or even a worthless blog, with thousands of links back to their own site.
This safety check, if you will, not only prohibits that from happening, but actually is used to decrease your score, or not make it move up at all.
Google is constantly tweaking the algoritm to insure that everything is fair, and to also eliminate those individuals and even businesses who try to use unethical practices to get their listing up there higher. This is one of those tweaks.
If this is something you are doing now, whether on purpose or because you really didn`t know any better, then you need to fix it immediately, because it is only hurting your rank.
Remember as we said in our previous articles (mentioned above), you want good link exchanges with quality websites, possibly from those sites that rank higher than your own, and you only need one link pointing back to you, from each of them.
In our next article we are going to discuss what is the best type of link exchange possible. You can trade 10,000 links and it won`t compare to this one type of link which carries more weight in the Google algorithm then all the others.
