Advanced Social Media Marketing Using Twitter And Facebook
Social media can be a powerful free tool in your marketing arsenal, but only if it is used correctly. There are plenty of spammers and scammers out there, and people are wary and skeptical, as they should be.
This article will cover how to use twitter and Facebook in conjunction with each other to drive traffic to your website and blog content, as well as to build relationships that turn into customers for your business.
If you are not familiar with the basics of twitter marketing I suggest you first read How To Market With Twitter The Right Way.
Twitter is a pretty fast paced environment. There are millions of thoughts simultaneously flying around the Twitter verse, which makes it an ideal medium to connect with people on what they are thinking about right now. That’s powerful!
However, when it comes to prospecting potential customers, it can be useful to slow things down a bit and have a more focused conversation. A great way to do this is to invite people to connect on Facebook, which is a more leisurely and personal environment.
The first question to address is how do you choose whom to invite to Facebook for this conversation? Look through your @replies and find people who are re-tweeting your messages, and who are putting you in #followfriday messages to their followers.
Also look through your direct messages and find people who have sent you quality, non spammy messages. Send those people a message expressing your gratitude for the twitter love, and ask them what they are using twitter for.
Your intent with this is two fold. One is to get them to ask what you are doing with twitter, and two to see if they are a potential customer or not. At this point if they ask what you are doing on twitter, tell them about your business and provide them with a link to your website.
Another approach is to ask them to connect on Facebook, and provide your profile link. These people are already showing some amount of positive regard toward you and may be open to getting to know you more.
When they do request you as a friend on Facebook, send them a message thanking them for joining you there, and ask them “So, Who is John smith anyway?”
This will open them up and get them to talk about themselves a bit. They may tell you more than you ever wanted to know about somebody, but it will further add to the rapport you are already building with them, and give you a better idea whether or not this person is really a prospective customer.
Often this will lead to them asking about you. When they do give them a brief overview of your self and what you are doing, and send them to your blog (if you have one) to get to know you better, or to your website.
Remember your over all intent here is to get the person to ask who you are and what you are doing so you can send them to your website. Until they ask, don’t tell.
